NATHANIEL GRANGER

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Nathaniel Granger, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this earthly realm on August 20, 2026. Born on June 8, 1938, in Sumter County, Alabama, Nathaniel's journey was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and community. The son of the late Howard and Classie Stanton Granger, Nathaniel was raised with strong values and a deep love for family. Educated in the Gadsden City School System, he proudly graduated from Carver High School in 1959. It was in these formative years that Nathaniel accepted Christ into his life and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Turkeytown. His commitment to his faith was evident in his long-standing role as Superintendent of Sunday School, where he served with humility and grace. In 1959, Nathaniel embarked on a groundbreaking career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, becoming one of the first Black employees to integrate the plant. His remarkable 38-year tenure at Goodyear was a testament to his resilience and work ethic, culminating in a well-deserved retirement in 1997. Outside of his professional life, Nathaniel was an active member of the Coates Bend Volunteer Fire Department, embodying a spirit of service that defined his character. Nathaniel's life was filled with simple joys and hobbies that reflected his love for the outdoors, including gardening, deer hunting, and fishing. An avid wrestling fan, he enjoyed sharing this passion with friends and family. Known for his warm smile, Nathaniel had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers, William, James, Ponce, and Henry Granger. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted sons, Larry (Sherri) Green of Douglasville, GA, Roderick Granger of Charlotte, NC, and Nathan Granger (Brenda) of Gadsden, AL; his loving daughter, Tamilyn Granger of Duluth, GA; and his cherished grandsons, Johnathan Green and Gregory Green of Douglasville, GA, and Donnell (Tameka) McKinley of Mobile, AL. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles (Bessie) Granger of Gadsden, AL; his sisters, Florence Shorter of Birmingham, AL, and Scarlet West of Gadsden, AL; his special companion and friend, Laura Mae Bowers of Collinsville, AL; six great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold his memory close. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all who have offered support and love during this time of sorrow. As we move forward, we are comforted by the knowledge that Nathaniel was cherished by so many. Please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
