With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nathan Lee Owen Sr., who departed this world peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 4, 1972, in Shelbyville, KY, Nathan was the cherished son of the late Marion "Billy" Owen and Sharon Palmer Owen. Nathan's life was rich with love, laughter, and service. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Natalie Leann Owen, as well as his parents and grandparents, Harold and Betty Owen, Billy Ray Palmer and Maudie Nation, and his dear mother-in-law, Doreen Green. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his devoted wife of 34 years, Jennifer Owen, and their children: son Nathan Owen Jr., married to Mary; daughters Madalynn R. Owen and Elizabeth Owen-Dorton, married to Cory. Nathan's family extended to his beloved animals, with whom he shared a special bond. Nathan's journey of love began with Jennifer, his high school sweetheart. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their children and welcoming a son and daughter-in-law into their family. A proud graduate of BEHS, Nathan bravely served his country as part of the 82nd Airborne stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. His time in the Army was a testament to his dedication to defending his fellow men and women. After his military service, Nathan continued to work hard, contributing to the community through his employment at Publishers Printing in Shepherdsville and Cracker Barrel. He was a respected member of Salt River Lodge #180 and Plume Creek Baptist Church, where he also dedicated time as a scout leader for Pack 333 and Troop 333. Nathan's heart was as vast as his interests. He had a profound love for gardening, tinkering with old items, and watching the History Channel. Always eager to learn and share, Nathan never met a stranger and was known for his warm smile, quick wit, and genuine kindness. His favorite saying, "You've gotten prettier than the last time I saw you," was a reflection of his uplifting spirit. Nathan believed that kindness was a gift everyone could afford to give, and he lived his life embodying this principle. In addition to his love for people, Nathan dedicated time to rescuing cats and other animals in need, sharing his compassion with all living beings. His faith guided him, always reminding those around him to love as God loves us. To honor Nathan's memory, the family invites you to celebrate his life in your own way. As he hears the words, "Well done, my faithful servant," we are asked to rejoice in the joy he brought to our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Nathan Lee Owen Sr. This gesture will continue his legacy of kindness and love for generations to come.
