Naomi Joy Mayne

September 23, 1938 — April 20, 2026

Naomi Joy Mayne, née Pettit, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 23, 1938, in the serene town of Gilman, Colorado, Joy lived a life rich in love, compassion, and dedication to family and community. Joy was the cherished daughter of Jess and Kathleen Goodwin Pettit. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Marlene Pettit, her brothers Jerry Goodwin and Ronald Pettit, and her beloved daughter, Debra Joy Tolbert. Despite the heartache of these losses, Joy's resilient spirit and unwavering faith carried her through life's challenges with grace. Joy's education began in the halls of Eagle County High School, from which she graduated in 1956. She furthered her studies at Brigham Young University, where she cultivated a love for learning and a commitment to personal growth. It was during these formative years that she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Verl Mayne I. They married on November 4, 1956, in Glenwood Springs, embarking on a journey of 69 wonderful years together. Their union was blessed with four children: Lynda LeAnn Bird (Mark), Robert Verl Mayne II (Diane Langton), Gerry Alfred Mayne (Krista Thorne), and their dear son-in-law, Randall Tolbert. Joy was the heart of her family, a devoted mother and grandmother to 17 grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her warmth and wisdom. Her love for family extended beyond her immediate circle, as she remained a nurturing presence for her sister Carole Richards, brother-in-law Richard Mayne (LuAnne), and sisters-in-law Alveda Mayne and Janet Mayne. A woman of deep faith, Joy was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 60 years. Her commitment to her faith was demonstrated through her active participation in church activities and her unwavering support of her community. Joy's passions were as diverse as they were numerous. She had a green thumb and took great joy in gardening, particularly in cultivating vibrant flowers that brightened her home and her heart. Her enthusiasm for genealogy was unmatched; she painstakingly added thousands of names to her family tree, preserving her family's legacy for generations to come. Joy was also a talented cook and seamstress, crafting delicious meals and beautiful quilts with love and precision. Her creativity shone through in her love for crafts, where her nimble fingers brought countless projects to life. A wanderer at heart, Joy loved to travel, exploring new places and cultures with an insatiable curiosity and zest for life. Yet, no matter where her travels took her, family was always her compass, guiding her back to the love and laughter that filled her home. In celebration of Joy's remarkable life, a service will be held on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 934 Gypsum Creek Rd. Her family invites all who knew her to join in honoring her memory and the legacy of love she leaves behind. As we bid farewell to Joy, we hold her close in our hearts, cherishing the countless memories she gifted us. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith will forever inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. In the words of her family, "Forever in our hearts."
