Nannie Louise Canada

Nannie Louise Canada, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on June 6; 1938, in Marietta, South Carolina, Nannie was the daughter of the late Frank McKinney and Carrie Lou Donald. Her life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering strength, and she touched countless lives with her warm spirit and generous heart. A proud graduate of Lincoln High School, Nannie went on to devote many years of service to, working at St. Francis (Bon Secours) and Greenville Memorial (Prisma). She was a devoted member of Great of New Hope Baptist church until her health declined. Her dedication and compassion were evident in every role she undertook, and she was a source of comfort and support to those she worked with and cared for. Nannie's greatest joy came from her family and friends. She was a devoted mother to two sons, Terry L. Canada (Cathryn) and Charles Canada, and five daughters, Vera Elamin, Jemelle Canada, Charlene Canada, Valarie Canada (Mike), and Samantha Canada Evans (Mark). Her family was her pride and joy, and she found immense happiness in their love and achievements. In addition to her children, she leaves behind a legacy of 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her endless delight. Though Nannie faced the heartache of losing her son Elmer McKinney, daughter Baby Ernestine McKinney, granddaughter Virginia Lashon El'amin, sister Hattie Mae McKinney, and brothers Frank McKinney Jr. and John Henry "Pete" McKinney, her resilience and faith never wavered. Nannie had a passion for life that was infectious. She loved to travel, and her adventures took her on many vacations and cruises with friends and family. Her home was a sanctuary for all who needed it, and she opened her doors and heart to anyone in need, becoming a mother figure to every child she encountered. Her affectionate nature, loving spirit, and radiant smile left a lasting impression on everyone she met. A service to celebrate Nannie's life will be held on August 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Great of New Hope Baptist Church, located at 403 Pollard Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29681. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to join in honoring her remarkable life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Great of Hew Hope Baptist Church as a way to continue Nannie's tradition of generosity and kindness. Nannie Louise Canada will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, compassion, and joy will continue to inspire and uplift those she leaves behind.
