Nancy Morris Johnson

In Loving Memory of Nancy Nancy was born on February 24, 1954, in the charming town of Farmville, VA, to parents Harry and Gladys Morris. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warm heart and bright smile touched all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her journey through life was filled with music, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community. Nancy's early years were marked by her passion for music. She graduated from Buckingham High School, where she spent summers traveling to Kansas for Band Camp, playing the piano, clarinet, and organ under the guidance of Samuel Littlejohn. Her love for music continued at Virginia State University, where she was a proud member of the 110 Marching Band. Later, driven by a desire to further her education, Nancy pursued a degree in Ministries at Phoenix University and then completed her studies at Liberty University. Throughout her career, Nancy served her community with dedication and kindness. She worked for many years at UVA Hospital before finding her true calling as a caregiver in a facility in Buckingham. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her professional life. As an active member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, Nancy shared her musical talents by playing the piano not only there but also at Slater River Baptist Church, Third Liberty, and various other churches throughout Buckingham County. Nancy's home was a haven for many, always open to her children's friends who needed a safe place to stay. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children, Nakisha Parker and Laurence Brooks, and a special daughter's, Cathleen Parker and Leslie Childs. Her legacy of love and care lives on through her grandchildren: Maquarr Chambers, Nadira Parker, Bre'Anna Skeens, Quadazha Parker, Kalif Parker, and Raymond Parker. She is also survived by her siblings: William Smith, Daisy Franklin, Warren Smith, Barbara Eppes, Pearl Eppes, Shirley Lucas, Robert Eppes, and Linda Epps, as well as her dear friend, MaryAnn Jackson. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Gladys Morris and Warren Smith, and her brother Charles Smith, as well as her sisters Lucile Eppes and Faye Swann. Nancy’s nurturing spirit, open heart, and infectious smile left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice of Piedmont for the care and kindness shown during her final days. A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Jerusalem Baptist Church, located at 111 Jerusalem Church Rd., Buckingham, VA 23921. In lieu of flowers, the family invites contributions to a charity of one's choice in her memory. Nancy's life was a testament to the power of GOD's love, music, and community. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
