October 30, 1948 — February 19, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Nancy Catherine Butler on February 19, 2026, at the age of 77. Nancy left this world peacefully after a short illness, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of her family and the compassionate care of Oakcrossing's medical staff. Born on October 30, 1948, in the serene town of Forest, Nancy was the beloved daughter of the late James and Mary Fehler. She grew up alongside her brother, Jim, who predeceased her, and her sister MaryAnne, with whom she shared a lifelong bond. Nancy possessed a brilliant mind and an insatiable curiosity, graduating from Laurier University before dedicating 25 years of her life to the noble profession of teaching. Her classrooms were vibrant spaces of learning and laughter, where she inspired countless young minds with her passion for languages and politics. Her students remember her not just as a teacher but as a mentor who imparted wisdom with a sprinkle of her renowned dry humor. Outside the classroom, Nancy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader and had a particular fondness for Canadiana, often listening to CBC broadcasts that fueled her interest in the world around her. Nancy cherished her lunches with longtime friends, where conversations were as rich and satisfying as the meals they shared. Her love for baking was legendary, and her kitchen was a haven of delightful aromas and delicious treats. Nancy's heart was as generous as her spirit was bright. She adored her pet companions, Mischa and Alice, who brought her endless joy and companionship. Her home was a sanctuary filled with love and laughter, where her family, including her cherished son Michael and daughter-in-law Ana, often gathered. She was a devoted grandmother to her two grandchildren, whose visits were the highlight of her days. Nancy's legacy of love also extends to her nephews and nieces, Sam, Rose, and Brian, who will forever hold her memory dear. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff and personal support workers of Oakcrossing for their exceptional care and compassion during Nancy's final days. Their dedication and kindness brought comfort to both Nancy and her family in a time of profound need. Nancy's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and learning. Her absence leaves a void that can never be filled, yet her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who knew and loved her. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we celebrate a life well-lived, forever grateful for the indelible mark she has left on our hearts. A private family service will be held to honor Nancy's life, with a celebration of her memory planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Nancy's name to a charity of your choice, an enduring tribute to a woman whose life was defined by generosity and love. May Nancy Catherine Butler rest in peace, her memory a blessing to all who knew her.
