In Loving Memory of Nancy Carole Lute It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Nancy Carole Lute on July 7, 2026, after a short illness. Born on August 17, 1946, in Boise, Idaho, Nancy was the beloved daughter of the late William and Norma Mätter (nee Smith). Nancy's journey through life was one marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering zest for life. She was a cherished sister to William Mätter and sister-in-law to Rena Mätter (Rodwell), a devoted aunt to her nephew Colby Mätter, and a loving partner and friend to Teri Day. Nancy's formative years were spent in Boise, where she graduated from Borah High School in 1969. She briefly attended the University of Idaho before marrying Dan Lute & they were together for a few years. Nancy then embarked on a career that would span several decades. She began her professional life as a claims examiner at the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the U.S. Medicare Administration from 1967 to 1972. Her innovative suggestions for procedural improvements were recognized with one of the largest cash awards in the company's history. Her career path led her into the lumber industry, where she found her true calling with Georgia Pacific Corp. For 35 years, Nancy dedicated herself to the company, earning the affectionate nickname "Woodie" for her extensive knowledge and passion. She rose through the ranks to become the branch manager at their Boise facility. Nancy also spent time as a lumber buyer for BMC West, eventually retiring in July 2009. Nancy and Teri realized a dream by building their vacation cabin in Garden Valley, ID, in 2002, which later became their permanent home in 2009. Nancy was an active and beloved member of the Garden Valley community, giving her time generously to the local Senior Center. Her efforts in food box packaging, distribution, and fundraising events, including the monthly Bingo games, brought joy and support to many. Nancy's life was filled with hobbies and interests that brought fulfillment and joy. A sports enthusiast, she excelled in snow skiing, tennis, and especially golf. Her passion for golf led to the creation of the Mätterhorn, a cherished annual tradition that fostered deep and lasting friendships among her "golf sisters." Beyond sports, Nancy embraced creativity through stained glass art, gardening, and cherished gatherings with friends over BBQs. She was known for her competitive spirit in card games, especially Sequence, where she relished partnering up to outplay her opponents. Nancy's adventurous spirit took her to distant lands, including memorable trips to Thailand and China. In retirement, she and Teri embarked on numerous road trips across the US, Canada, and Mexico, delighting in the history, culture, and cuisine of each destination. She also enjoyed memorable cruises in Alaska and the Caribbean. Nancy's infectious smile, leadership, and loyalty left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love and friendship will be cherished by all who had the privilege of sharing in her life. A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on July 26, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
