April 2, 1944 — May 19, 2026

Nancy Carol (Stimmell) Spragg, 82, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, after courageously battling various health challenges. Born on Palm Sunday, April 2, 1944, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Nancy’s caring spirit and quick sense of humor touched the lives of her children, grandchildren, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Throughout her life, she was admired for her kindness, strength, and deep devotion to her family. She carried the warmth and values of her West Virginia roots with her while building a life centered on her family in Arizona. Nancy was the only daughter of Lloyd Elmer Stimmell and Ida Mae Stimmell and grew up alongside her two loving and spirited brothers. Proudly calling herself a “coal miner’s daughter” from Fairmont, West Virginia, she often spoke fondly of her upbringing. In her childhood, she enjoyed dancing, participating in sports, and staying active in school clubs. Nancy graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1962. After attending college for a year in Kansas City, she returned to West Virginia, where she began her career with the Monongahela Power Company. In 1983, she moved her family to Arizona for warmer weather and to escape from the West Virginia allergies. She ultimately retired after 15 years of service at Salt River Project, a local utility company. A strong and independent single mother, Nancy devoted her life to raising her two daughters, who were truly her world. She instilled in them the value of hard work, the importance of education, the proper way to grow tomatoes, and a lifelong appreciation for Elvis Presley. Her daughters and grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy, and she always placed their needs above her own. Nancy was known as the family storyteller and as someone who could fix any problem, physical or not, including serving as the expert seamstress who could mend anything made of cloth. Her creativity shined through the bedtime stories she invented for her grandchildren—stories they will always cherish. She deeply loved her grandchildren, and any time spent with them brought her great joy. She was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served her community within the church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ida Mae Stimmell, and her older brother, Frederick Neil Stimmell MD. She is survived by her daughters, Shelley Plumb (Rod) and Shannon Holec (Jim); her six grandchildren, Justin (Lizzie), Jacob (Kelsey), Kyle (Courtney), Dillon (Bailey), Samantha, and Austin; and her brother, Mark Edward Stimmell (Joan). She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her dearly. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
