Nancy Anne Bugg

Nancy Anne Nielson Bugg, of Colorado Springs, CO, age 72, passed away August 18th, 2026 in Colorado Springs, CO. Nancy was born July 10th, 1954 to Grant Elliot Nielson and Margaret Welker in Van Nuys, CA. She grew up the youngest of her siblings Michael Grant Nielson, Elizabeth Nielson Green, and Melinda Nielson Daniels, and carried their family's intelligence and wit with her all her life. Nancy attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a degree in Microbiology. While at BYU she met Alan Lynn Bugg, and the two were married in the LDS Salt Lake Temple in 1976. Together they raised seven children. Nancy was a strong, capable, and incredibly intelligent woman with high standards and expectations for those around her, and yet she was never one to judge harshly on the matters that truly counted. She sacrificed for her children in ways that are hard to put into words, but it was always, unmistakably, out of love. She would correct improper speech, and was known to give vocabulary tests over the summer to her children. She was also sharp-witted and unfailingly snarky, with a sense of humor that could catch you off guard, but was never mean-spirited. Nancy did what needed to be done without complaint for her family. She worked at St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand Junction, CO, and over the years that followed, she moved in and out of various jobs as her family's needs demanded; working at insurance agencies, including her father-in-law's, and stepping in for Alan's practice, caring for the children by day and handling bankruptcy paperwork at her computer by night. She later worked for USAA for a number of years before returning to the medical field as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Through all of it, she remained the primary caregiver to seven children and their demanding schedules across sports, musical recitals, school, youth activities and more; doing whatever it took to keep the family running. She had a love for the beach, for reading, and for children - especially babies. After suffering a severe broken collar bone, among other injuries sustained in a car accident, she was most upset at the difficulty it might cause her to hold her new grandchild. She cared for Alan through the majority of his decline, seeing him through the hardest years before his passing. In her later years, she spent as much time traveling as she could. Nancy is survived by her siblings Michael Grant Nielson, Elizabeth Nielson Green, and Melinda Nielson Daniels; her seven children Lori Lyn (Kevin), Mark Alan, Matthew Aaron, Cheryl Elizabeth (Bryson), Jonathan Michael (Lauren), Carolyn Margaret (Alex), and Scott Donald; and eighteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Lynn Bugg, in 2020. Her sudden and brief illness, leading to her passing, has left a hole we cannot hope to fill.
