August 30, 1955 — June 3, 2026

With profound love and respect, we celebrate the life of Nancy A. Joyce, who departed this world on June 3, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on August 30, 1955, in the vibrant city of Boston, MA, Nancy was the cherished daughter of the late Paul and Eileen Joyce, whose warmth and guidance she carried throughout her life. Nancy's journey was one of dedication and compassion, marked by her steadfast commitment to education and her students. She was a proud graduate of North Smithfield High School, class of 1973, and furthered her education with a BA from Salve Regina University in 1977, followed by an MA from Providence College in 1983. Her passion for teaching and her empathetic nature led her to a remarkable 38-year career in Special Education, where she touched countless lives. Beginning her career in Cumberland, RI, Nancy taught life skills at the secondary level with an innovative approach that included a student-run lunch program. Her dedication to her students extended beyond the classroom as she co-coached the Special Olympics for 11 rewarding years. In 2005, she embraced a new challenge in Bellingham, MA, where she established a vocational program at the high school, fostering community involvement and practical learning experiences. Nancy's legacy in education is one of nurturing possibilities and instilling confidence in her students, a legacy that will continue to inspire. Following her retirement in 2015, Nancy found joy and fulfillment as a docent and cashier at the JFK Museum in Hyannis, where she shared her love of history with visitors from all walks of life. Her vibrant spirit and intellectual curiosity were evident in her avid reading of historical works and her love for gardening and nature. Nancy found peace in the simple pleasures of life, whether tending to her garden, traveling to new places, or observing the beauty of birds in flight. Nancy's heart was always open, nurturing friendships that spanned decades and generations. She is survived by her devoted friend and former student, Vanessa Schwenker, who has been a cherished part of her life since 2019, and her cousin, Christopher O'Gara, along with many other cousins. Her close friends, Charlene and Stan Szczepanek, and Linda and George O'Grady, stood by her side, sharing in life's joys and challenges. Nancy's home was further enriched by the unconditional love of her beloved dogs, Dempsey and Aoifa, who were her constant companions and brought her endless happiness on beach walks and quiet evenings. Nancy's life will be celebrated with a service at St. Pius X Church, located on Station Ave. in South Yarmouth, MA, where friends and family will gather to honor her legacy and the light she brought to all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Nancy's memory to the National Wildlife Federation, Ocean Conservancy, or the MSPCA, reflecting her deep love for animals and nature. Though Nancy is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place will forever be remembered and cherished. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal beauty of nature she so dearly loved.
