Nancy A. Johnson, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on June 6, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on February 22, 1936, in the vibrant city of Portland, Oregon, Nancy was the beloved daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Pratt. She grew up in a loving household alongside her siblings, Vivian, Bob, Frank, and Larry.
Nancy's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and resilience. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Vivian, her brothers Bob and Frank, her two sons, Douglas and Terry Johnson, as well as her grandson, Larry Johnson II. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Cheryl Meade and Jan Lawrence, her brother Larry Johnson and his wife Sharlene, as well as a legacy of 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, who will carry on her spirit.
In 1953, Nancy married Arvid Johnson, with whom she shared 57 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2010. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a family centered around warmth and support.
Nancy's educational journey led her to graduate from Washington High School, after which she embarked on a career at the Main Post Office, where she dedicated many years of service. Her colleagues remember her as a beacon of cheer and efficiency, always ready with a kind word and a helping hand.
Known for her great sense of humor and fierce independence, Nancy was a source of strength and guidance for her family. She was the first call in times of need, offering sage healthcare advice, especially after raising five children. Her nurturing nature extended to her son Terry, to whom she provided unwavering support after he became a quadriplegic.
Nancy had a zest for life that was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She loved to travel and explore new places, finding joy in the beauty of nature through gardening. She was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, often tackling challenging grids with a pen — a testament to her confidence and sharp mind. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family, creating memories filled with laughter and love.
A charter member of the YMCA since 1998, Nancy participated in water aerobics well into her later years, embodying the spirit of vitality and fitness. Her presence was a constant source of inspiration for those around her.
In honor of her compassionate heart, donations may be made in Nancy's memory to the American Heart Association. The Johnson family extends their deepest gratitude to the hospice staff for their attentive care and support during Nancy's final days.
Nancy A. Johnson will be remembered as a loving matriarch, a dedicated friend, and a woman of remarkable strength. Her legacy of kindness and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, cherished in our memories and hearts forever.
