Myrtle McMeckan (Potts)
March 29, 1939 — April 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Myrtle McMeckan (Potts), who left this world on April 16, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 29, 1939, in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Myrtle was a beacon of strength, resilience, and love throughout her 87 years.
Myrtle was the beloved daughter of the late William and Mary Potts. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William McMeckan, her loving parents, her brothers Lawrence and Ken Potts, her brother-in-law Gavin Holmes, and her sisters-in-law Edith McConnell and Eva Hughes. Her memory is cherished by her sons, Cameron (Kelly) Potts and Greg (Elan) McMeckan, and her adored grandson, Gage McMeckan. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Doreen Holmes, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who will miss her dearly.
In 1968, Myrtle married the love of her life, William McMeckan, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Together, they embarked on a journey that took them to Edmonton, Alberta, where they built a life rich in love and community. Myrtle dedicated over 50 years to her career as a bookkeeper, mainly in the retail furniture business, where her meticulous nature and dedication shone brightly.
A cherished member of the Kingsway Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Edmonton Community Leagues, Myrtle was a pillar of her community. Her commitment to volunteering was unmatched, as she passionately lent her time and talents to casino and bingo fundraisers. Her leadership was evident in her roles as past president, vice-president, and secretary of the Lauderdale Community League. Myrtle's generosity extended beyond titles; she was always eager to assist other community leagues and was a reliable last-minute babysitter for her grandson and beloved grand-dogs.
Myrtle's life will be celebrated on May 4, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, located at 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton, AB. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived, filled with compassion, dedication, and unwavering love.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, in memory of Myrtle's brave fight against the disease.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Norwood Hospice Centre and Eaux Claire Extendicare for the exceptional care and kindness they provided to Myrtle during her final days.
Myrtle's legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering spirit will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
