It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Myrtle Lois Giffin, a beloved wife, friend, and community member, who left us peacefully on May 8, 2026, at Colchester East Hants hospital after a courageous battle with kidney disease. Myrtle was 82 years old.
Myrtle was born on May 29, 1943, in the quaint village of Debert, Nova Scotia, to her loving parents Howard and Nellie McDorman. She was a devoted sister to George and Marion, all of whom have predeceased her. Myrtle's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and countless shared moments with those she held dear.
Married to her devoted husband, David Wayne Giffin, for a remarkable 61 years, Myrtle and David's journey together was filled with adventure, love, and companionship. Their shared passion for travel took them across the globe, with 23 joyful years spent wintering in the warm embrace of Florida's sunshine. Together, they were active members of a beloved camping club, where they fostered lifelong friendships and created treasured memories.
Myrtle's career in the insurance industry spanned many years, during which she was known for her diligence, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to her clients. Outside of work, Myrtle's home was a haven where family and friends gathered to relish her exceptional culinary skills. Her meals were legendary, and her table was often a place of laughter and camaraderie, enriched by her radiant smile and quick wit.
Known for her great sense of humor and a memory that served as a beacon for all who struggled to recall a date or detail, Myrtle was the cornerstone of her family's gatherings. Her love for a good game of 45’s and Bid Euchre was infectious, bringing joy and excitement to all who sat at her card table.
Myrtle's legacy is one of warmth, kindness, and an unwavering zest for life. She touched the hearts of many, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. As we remember Myrtle, let us celebrate the vibrant spirit she shared and the beautiful life she led.
A service to honor and celebrate Myrtle's life will take place on May 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, located at 512 Willow Street, Truro.
