Myrna Mielke
August 11, 1935 — August 15, 2026
Myrna Mielke, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Born on August 11, 1935, in the small town of Ada, Minnesota, Myrna was the cherished daughter of Roy and Mildred Larson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sisters, Janice Hall, Betty Dickson, and Shirley Nappe.
Myrna's journey through life was marked by love, creativity, and an enduring commitment to her family. She married the love of her life, Basil Mielke, on August 28, 1954, in Mahnomen, Minnesota. Together, they shared a remarkable partnership and built a loving home for their three children: Bruce, Brian, and Barb. Myrna took immense pride in her family, which grew to include her grandchildren, Luke, Isaac, Brandon, and Ainsley, and her great-grandchildren, Liam and Connell.
A member of the Mahnomen High School class of 1954, Myrna embarked on a diverse career. In the 1950s, she worked at the telephone company, where she had the unique job of training customers on how to use the new rotary phones. Later, she applied her talents as a bookkeeper in both Cambridge and Detroit Lakes. Her nurturing spirit was evident as she babysat many children over the years, allowing her to be present for her own children while contributing to the community.
Myrna's life was a tapestry of creativity and joy. An exceptional seamstress, she crafted her own wedding dress, as well as countless Halloween costumes, clothing items, and blankets for her family. Her artistic talents extended to ceramics, where she found delight and fulfillment in her weekly classes, particularly in crafting her cherished Nativity scene. For several years, she shared her creations with others by selling a variety of craft items at local craft shows.
Known for her playful spirit, Myrna often adorned herself in costumes to entertain and occasionally startle the neighborhood children during Halloween, even creating an 8-foot Bigfoot that she cleverly hid in the lilac bushes.
In her passing, Myrna leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and creativity. Her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Greenwood Connection for the compassion and support they provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Myrna's memory. May her spirit continue to inspire those who knew her and her warmth be felt in the hearts of those she touched.
