In Loving Memory
MM
my mother
January 31, 1946 — May 30, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left this world on May 30, 2026. Born on January 31, 1946, in Wellington, New York, she lived a life abundant in love, laughter, and kindness, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
She was the cherished daughter of Howard and Georgia Jolls, who raised her with the values of compassion and resilience. She was the beloved wife of Rollie Joels, her partner for over 40 years, who preceded her in death. Together, they created a loving and nurturing home filled with warmth and joy. Chyrel attended Stoney Brook College in New York State where she earned her LPN license and her joy for helping others. Chyrel would call home most of her life in Upstate New York, fondly known as Tug Hill.
Our mother is survived by her devoted children, Jenny (Daniel) Rodriguez and Mark (Elizabeth) Melvin, who were her pride and joy. Her legacy continues through her five beautiful granddaughters: Danielle (Aleksandr) Dean, Nicole Witham, Delaney Witham, Cassie Witham, and Annabelle Melvin. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchild, Acker Dean, whose laughter brought her immense joy and whose scooter rides she accompanied with great delight.
A woman of many talents, she found great passion in gardening and baking, where she combined her love for nature and nurturing into everything she created. Her garden was a testament to her care and expertise, and her kitchen was filled with the sweet aroma of her baked goods, made with love for her family and friends.
Known for her quick wit and sarcastic humor, she had an uncanny ability to bring laughter and light to any room. Her jokes were legendary among family and friends, and her laughter was infectious. She was a beacon of joy, always ready with a kind word or a funny story to brighten someone's day.
Her love for animals and the mysteries of space defined her leisure time, as she would often be found watching her favorite shows including Star Trek and any movie starring Matthew McConaughey, sharing her insights and enthusiasm with those around her. She found a love for bird watching and built many homes for all sorts of feathered friends. Her family fondly recalls her delight in sharing these interests, especially with her granddaughters and great-grandson, who she loved dearly.
In honor of her love for animals, we invite those who wish to make a donation in her memory to the Onslow County Animal Shelter, where her compassion for all creatures great and small will continue to make a difference.
As we say our final goodbyes, we offer our deepest gratitude to the dedicated teams at Onslow County Hospital and Liberty Hospice. Their care and compassion for our mother during her final days were a testament to the kindness and professionalism that she herself exemplified throughout her life.
Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in the laughter of her family, the blooming of her garden, the songs sung by the birds, and the memories we all hold dear. She will be deeply missed but forever loved, and her legacy will continue to inspire us all.
Rest in peace, dear mother. You have left an indelible mark on our hearts, and we will carry your love with us always.
