January 11, 1933 — October 14, 2025

In Loving Memory of a Cherished Soul Mable Phyllis Slattery (Olson), born on January 11, 1933, in the serene town of Yankton, South Dakota, gracefully completed her earthly journey on October 14, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort, after a brave battle with illness. Her life was a testament to resilience, faith, and unconditional love, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know her. Born to Joseph and Orpha (Gurney) Olson, she was the embodiment of warmth and kindness, qualities that she carried throughout her life. Her journey was intertwined with the love of her life, Emil Slattery, whom she married on September 8, 1949, in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Together, they shared forty wonderful years, raising six children and cultivating a life rich with love, laughter, and shared dreams. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Joseph and Orpha Olson, her devoted husband Emil Slattery, and her cherished children, Emil Slattery Jr., Judy (Slattery) Horlick, and Dan Slattery. Her legacy, however, continues through her surviving family: Vonnie and Kenny Bergfield, Ron and Pam Slattery, Linda Ford, and Lisa Slattery. Her loving presence lives on in her 15 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren, each a testament to her nurturing spirit and enduring love. Her life was rooted in faith, and her dedication to the Central Baptist Church was unwavering. She was not only a member but a devoted participant—singing in the choir, teaching across various age groups, and nurturing young souls during Vacation Bible School. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. A woman of many talents, she spent much of her life tending to the family farm, working as a teacher's assistant, and serving in home health. Her hands were never idle—whether in her garden, where she lovingly tended to flowers and vegetables, or alongside her children, fishing, camping, and woodworking. Her generosity knew no bounds, as she shared the bounty of her garden and the warmth of her heart with all. Known for her welcoming smile and a heart that embraced everyone, she had a rare gift for making people feel valued and cherished. Her kindness and generosity were the hallmarks of her life, touching countless souls and leaving a legacy of love and compassion. A service to celebrate her remarkable life will be held on May 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the American Legion Post 123 in Bassett, Nebraska, located at 201 East Buchanan St, Bassett, NE 68714. It will be a time to honor her memory, share stories, and find comfort in the love she bestowed upon us all. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice group for their compassionate care during her final days. It was an honor and privilege for my wife and I to be by her side, in our home, as she gently transitioned to meet her maker, the Lord Jesus Christ, and reunite with her long-missed husband, Emil. As we bid farewell to a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, we hold her memory close, forever grateful for the light she brought into our lives. May her soul rest in eternal peace, her spirit forever watching over us.
