In Loving Memory

Cecilia Marie Vanderpool
May 21, 1956 — May 9, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Cecilia Vanderpool, who left this world peacefully at home on May 9, 2026, just shy of her 70th birthday. Born on May 21, 1956, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Cecilia blessed the lives of all who knew her with her love, wisdom, and unwavering spirit.
Cecilia was the cherished daughter of Charles and Marilyn Cowie, who have preceded her in death, along with her beloved brothers, Duncan and Larry. Her legacy of warmth and compassion is carried forward by her devoted husband, Hurley Vanderpool, with whom she shared 13 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they embraced retirement, embarked on new adventures, and cherished the joys of family and travel.
A devoted mother to Melissa and Jessica, Cecilia’s nurturing spirit extended to her treasured grandchildren, Isaac, Daxton, and Alicia, who were the light of her life. She also leaves behind her brothers, Thomas and Mark, as well as her loving niece, Amy, and nephews, Daniel and Kendrick. Her family was her pride and joy, and her love for them knew no bounds.
Cecilia's journey in life was marked by a passion for learning. A graduate of Trona High School in 1974, she pursued her love for education at University of California, where she graduated at the top of her class. Her career as a computer programmer spanned her 20s and 30s and continued until she retired at the age of 62. Her dedication and intellect were evident in her professional achievements, and she was a trailblazer in her field.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Cecilia was a devoted Catholic who lived a life of faith and service. She was known as a true angel on earth, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer heartfelt guidance to those in need. Her adventurous nature and sharp wit made her a cherished friend and confidante, and she was always ready with comforting words and the best advice.
Cecilia’s artistic talents were as diverse as they were extraordinary. She found joy in painting, drawing, photography, singing, and dancing, each a reflection of her vibrant personality and zest for life. Her creativity knew no bounds, and she shared her gifts freely with those around her.
Cecilia's commitment to helping others extended to her support of women's shelters, a cause close to her heart. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the memorial fund established in her honor, the Cecilia Vanderpool Memorial Fund, to continue her legacy of compassion and support for those in need.
As we gather to celebrate Cecilia's remarkable life, we remember her for the loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend she was. Her spirit will forever dwell in our hearts, and her memory will be a guiding light for all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones, and forever cherished by those she leaves behind.
