In Loving Memory

My Mom
October 7, 1943 — February 27, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, lovingly referred to as "My Mom," who departed this world peacefully at home on February 27, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. She was 82 years old.
Born on October 7, 1943, in Mount Vernon, New York, she was the cherished daughter of Kathryn Sheldon and Ludwig Fischer. Her journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit, humor, and an abundance of love that she generously shared with those blessed to know her.
My Mom was a beacon of joy, known for her humor and jovial spirit. Her kindness, loyalty, and generosity were hallmarks of her character, touching the lives of everyone she encountered. Growing up near the water, she spent countless days at Echo Bay, a small island off the shores of the Long Island Sound, where she forged lifelong friendships that endured until her final days.
Her career began in the bustling heart of New York City as an administrative assistant, a role she embraced with dedication and professionalism. Over the years, she contributed her talents to many large corporations, retiring after an impressive 45-year career.
In 1971, she married Salvatore "Sam" Briganti, the love of her life. Their marriage was a testament to true partnership, characterized by mutual respect and a shared faith that guided their journey together. Sam predeceased her, yet their bond remained an enduring source of comfort and inspiration.
A woman of varied interests, My Mom found joy in attending the theater, concerts, and symphonic performances. She cherished her time spent at the beach, swimming, jogging, and reading the Bible. Her love for family was evident in every aspect of her life, whether she was nurturing her grandchildren or keeping the flame of family traditions alive.
She was predeceased by her beloved spouse, Salvatore Sam Briganti, and her dear son, Christopher Donald Heyman. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family members: her devoted daughter, Kerri Alden; beloved brother, Arthur Fischer (Sally); cherished sister, Wendy Fisher; treasured grandson, Christopher Alden; and loving cousin, Loretta Taliercio. She is also remembered by her extended family, David Briganti (Colleen), and grandchildren, David Briganti (Emily), Stephen Briganti, Caitlyn Briganti, and Chris Briganti.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Brenda, her wonderful caregiver, for the unwavering dedication and compassion she provided, as well as to the team at Agape Care Group for tending to her needs with such grace and dignity.
In keeping with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor and celebrate her life. She will be dearly missed, yet her warmth, wisdom, and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
We invite family and friends to remember her not with sorrow, but with the joy and humor she so freely shared with us all. Her life, a testament to love and resilience, is a legacy that will forever be cherished.
