In Loving Memory of My Father: Cornelius Spann
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Cornelius Spann, who left this world on June 20, 2026. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with illness, including COPD. Cornelius was 76 years old.
Cornelius was born on July 31, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to Walter and Virginia Spann, who have predeceased him. He was a devoted son, who carried the values instilled in him by his loving parents throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Northwestern High School, Cornelius was not only a man of work but also of warmth and humor. He dedicated nearly three decades of his life to McCloud Steel Downriver, where he became affectionately known by his coworkers as "Lightning." His dedication and work ethic left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
In 1995, Cornelius married the love of his life, Annise Ann Griffin, in Detroit, Michigan. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a family filled with joy, shared adventures, and unwavering support.
Cornelius was a man of many passions, with a particular love for sports, traveling, and road trips. He embraced life with an infectious joy, always wearing a big smile and spreading laughter wherever he went. His humor and zest for life were matched only by his kindness and generosity.
He was the kind of man who took others under his wing, offering love and guidance as if they were his own. Cornelius was a devoted father to Phillanna Primuse-Wright and Frank Primuse, and a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. His legacy of love and laughter will continue to shine brightly through them.
Cornelius is survived by his beloved wife Annise, his children Phillanna and Frank, his eight grandchildren, and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A service to honor and celebrate Cornelius's life will be held on July 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens, located at 17840 Middlebelt Road. We invite all who knew and loved Cornelius to join us in remembering a remarkable man who touched so many lives.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has extended their support and kindness during this difficult time. Your love and compassion have been a source of comfort and strength.
Cornelius Spann was a remarkable man whose spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As we say goodbye, we do so with the knowledge that his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire us every day.
Rest in peace, dear Cornelius. You are forever loved and deeply missed.
