In Loving Memory

Athena Rose Alfaro
October 23, 2021 — March 24, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Athena Rose Alfaro, who departed this world far too soon on March 24, 2026, at the tender age of four. Athena was born on October 23, 2021, in the vibrant city of New York, where she graced us with her presence and infectious joy from the very start.
Athena passed away at St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Center for Children, after a courageous battle that ended with two cardiac arrests, resulting in brain death. Through her short yet impactful life, she inspired everyone around her with her resilience and unyielding spirit. Athena's journey taught us that despite the challenges presented by her cerebral palsy, nothing was impossible when it came to showering her with love and care.
Athena was the cherished daughter of Irving Alfaro and Katherine Banos, who devoted themselves to nurturing her every need and celebrating her every achievement, however small. She was predeceased by her cousin Estephany and two beloved aunts, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms in the afterlife.
Athena attended Apple Preschool 3K and participated in Early Intervention programs, where her teachers and therapists were captivated by her radiant smile and zest for life. Her days were filled with the delights of childhood as she indulged in her favorite hobbies, which included watching Minnie’s Bowtique, Cry Babies, and Barbie. Her love for the movie "Encanto" was unmatched, and she found sheer joy in the colorful movement of Hey Bear sensory videos.
Despite her young age, Athena possessed a personality that left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She was known for imitating Chewbacca sounds, a testament to her playful and adventurous spirit. Athena had a unique way of bopping her head to music, bringing smiles to her family’s faces. She was a night owl at heart, always eager to stay up late and absorb the world around her.
A service to celebrate Athena’s life will be held on April 1, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Leo F. Kearns, located at 103-33 Lefferts Blvd, South Richmond Hill. Family and friends are welcome to join in honoring her memory and supporting the family during this difficult time.
In a special message, Athena's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Their compassion and care provided comfort during the most challenging times of Athena’s journey.
Athena Rose Alfaro will be remembered for her unwavering courage and the profound impact she had on everyone she encountered. Her life, though brief, was a testament to love and perseverance. As we say goodbye, we are reminded that she proved everyone wrong by living her life to the fullest, teaching us all the true meaning of strength and hope.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Athena's memory to organizations supporting children with cerebral palsy, ensuring her legacy of determination and love continues to touch the lives of others.
