In Loving Memory

my dad
September 16, 1935 — May 31, 2026
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known affectionately as "My Dad," who left this world on May 31, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on September 16, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, he passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
"My Dad" was the cherished son of Louis and Emmie Clay, who instilled in him values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. He was predeceased by his siblings Preston, Huron, Donald, Edward, Burnell, Bernice, Marvis, and Carol, who now welcome him into eternal rest. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Sandra Clay, whom he married on November 8, 1975, in a celebration of love and partnership that spanned half a century.
He leaves behind an enduring legacy through his children: daughters Sharon Clay, Judith Clay, and Saundra Gipson (Chauncey); sons William Sabra, Charles Sabra (Michelle), Larry Sabra, and Earl Sabra (Charlene). His cherished grandson, DeSean McMurray, who also served as his caregiver, was a constant source of joy and companionship. "My Dad" was blessed with a large, loving family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
A proud graduate of his high school in Detroit, "My Dad" dedicated 40 years of distinguished service to General Motors, where his work ethic and dedication left an indelible mark. His commitment extended beyond his professional life into his community, where he was an active and devoted member of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church for 65 years. His faith and fellowship were the cornerstones of his life, providing strength and guidance to those around him.
A lover of basketball, "My Dad" enjoyed the camaraderie and excitement of the game, whether on the court or cheering from the sidelines. Known for his quick wit, he had an unparalleled ability to bring laughter and joy to those in his presence, lighting up any room with his humor and warmth.
A service to celebrate his remarkable life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, located in Detroit, Michigan. Family and friends are invited to gather in a tribute to a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.
As we say goodbye to "My Dad," we remember him as a beacon of love and strength. His life was a testament to kindness, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever remain a guiding light for those he leaves behind. We take comfort in knowing he is at peace, reunited with those he loved and lost, watching over us with his unfailing love.
