My dad

March 8, 1952 — February 25, 2026

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, known to many simply and warmly as "Dad." Born on March 8, 1952, in the charming city of Gulfport, Mississippi, he peacefully departed this life on February 25, 2026, at Barnes Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and cherished memories. Dad was the cherished son of Toye and Bertha Dantzler, both of whom predeceased him along with his beloved wife, Dorthy Ann Grant, and his brothers, Michael Dantzler and Tommy Joe Dantzler. Though our family has experienced its share of sorrow, we are comforted by the thought that they are all reunited once more. Throughout his life, Dad was a pillar of strength and joy for those around him. He spent many years working diligently at Angling Tire Company and Wrights Security Company, where he was not only a dedicated employee but also a friend and confidant to many. His work ethic and loyalty were unmatched, and he took great pride in every task he undertook. Dad had an extraordinary gift for humor and levity. He was known for his playful banter and his ability to make people laugh with his light-hearted teasing. Those who knew him will fondly remember his love of action movies, comedies, and wrestling, as well as his deep appreciation for the soulful sounds of blues music. His laughter was infectious, and his spirit, unbreakable. He leaves behind a loving family who adored him beyond measure: his oldest daughter, Theresa Grant, and her husband, David Washington; his youngest daughter, Jasmine Grant Dotson, and her husband, Collin Dotson. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren—Dynasty Nelson, Desiree Sturghill, Demetrius Sturghill Jr., De'Mya Sturghill, Derya Sturghill, Ja'Mya Eubanks, and Ja'Vonta Eubanks—each of whom carries a piece of his vibrant spirit and love. Additionally, a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends mourn his passing and celebrate the joy he brought into their lives. A celebration of Dad's life will take place on March 21, 2026, at 11:00 PM at Serenity Burial and Cremations. It will be a time to honor his memory, share stories, and find solace in the company of those who loved him dearly. Though our hearts are heavy with his absence, we find comfort in the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the memories that will forever keep him alive in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Dad, knowing that you are forever cherished and eternally loved.
