My dad
November 12, 1945 — May 31, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt love that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, My Dad, on May 31, 2026. He left this world surrounded by the warmth and love of his family at his home, having bravely battled End Stage COPD. Born on November 12, 1945, in Lafayette, Louisiana, he was a beacon of strength and resilience throughout his 80 years.
My Dad was the cherished son of the late Elly and Phillice Dixon. He grew up in a large and loving family, alongside his predeceased siblings: brothers Leo Paul, Mack Xavier, and Willie Charles Dixon; and sisters Lucille, Virginia, Brenda Marie, and Lil Sister Dixon. Despite the challenges of losing these dear family members, he carried their memories with him, honoring them through his actions and love for family.
He is survived by his devoted children: Connie Dixon Pitre and husband Larry from Carencro, LA; Jessie Dixon Jr. and wife Anitra Brooks Dixon from Sunset, LA; Tracy Dixon and husband Justin from Maryland; and Tiffany Dixon Leblanc and husband CJ. His legacy also lives on through his three sisters: Myrtle Mae Rubin of Houston, TX, Rose Hoyroyd, and Linda Faye Louis, both from Sunset, LA. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and countless friends whose lives he touched deeply.
A man of humble beginnings, My Dad worked diligently as an orderly at Our Lady of Lourdes for several years before becoming disabled. His dedication to his work and the compassion he showed colleagues and patients alike exemplified the kindness that was inherent to his character.
Our dad was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and his laughter was a melody that brought joy to our hearts. He taught us the importance of resilience, kindness, and family unity, lessons that will remain with us forever.
In this time of loss, we find solace in the family he built and in the love he so generously gave. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the care team who supported our dad during his journey. Your kindness, patience, and unwavering support brought immense comfort to him and our family. You treated our dad with dignity and respect, which gave us invaluable peace of mind. For this, we extend our sincere appreciation.
As we say goodbye to our beloved father, we are reminded of the immeasurable joy he brought into our lives. Though he may have left this earthly realm, his spirit will forever guide us. We will honor his memory by embodying the strength, love, and resilience he showed us each day.
A private family service will be held to celebrate his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to a charity of your choice, a gesture that would have greatly honored him.
Rest in peace, dear Dad. You will remain forever in our hearts.
