Mike Wilson aka Deek
October 12, 1945 — February 3, 2026
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our cherished father, husband, and friend, known to many simply as "Dad." Born in the scenic city of San Francisco on October 24, 1945, he left this world to join the stars on February 3, 2026. His journey through life was marked by love, service, and an unwavering devotion to family and community.
The son of the late Donald Joseph Wilson and Iris Wilson, Dad was a pillar of strength and kindness. He spent his youthful days in the embrace of nature in Crescent City, California, where he attended Margaret Keating School and Del Norte High School. His life took a turn of honor and duty when he served in the United States Army as a sergeant from 1967 to 1974, a period during which he exemplified dedication and courage.
In a love story that spanned decades, Dad married the love of his life, Gail Diane Smith, on November 9, 1973, in Crescent City. Their union was a testament to enduring love and companionship. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and laughter, nurturing a family that grew to include children Lynda, Donovan, Mike, Christine, Scott, Joanne, Eric, and Rachel.
Dad's professional journey saw him working with the Simpson Timber Company in Klamath, California, until an unfortunate injury at the age of 29. Despite the challenges, he remained a steadfast provider and found solace in his hobbies—fishing, hunting, camping, and woodworking, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
As a proud member of the Yurok tribe, Dad held his cultural heritage close to his heart. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life—discussing the weather, tending to his flower garden, and caring for his beloved fruit trees. His happiness was infectious, often marked by the soft hum of a melody as he went about his day.
Dad's life was a tapestry woven with love for his family. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, his daughter Christina Marie, his siblings Kenny, Dolores, and their spouses, among many other cherished family members. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his surviving siblings George, Sandy, Donnie, Joe, and Sue. His spirit lives on through his children, grandchildren—Kevin, Kyle, Mariah, JJ, Keegan, Cameron, Riley, James, and Steven—and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will forever hold his memory close.
His passing leaves an indelible void, but also a rich legacy of love, laughter, and humility. We, his family, take comfort in knowing that Dad is now reunited with those who have gone before him, humming his favorite tune in the gardens of eternity.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held at a date to be announced, where family and friends are welcome to share in stories and celebrate the remarkable life of a truly remarkable man. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten, for his love lives on in all of us who were blessed to know him.
