Jeffrey Lilburn Nelson

May 4, 1965 — March 31, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of my brother, Jeffrey Lilburn Nelson, who entered eternal rest on March 31, 2026, at the age of 60. Jeffrey passed unexpectedly at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, due to complications from diabetes. Born on May 4, 1965, in Baton Rouge, Jeffrey was the cherished son of the late Jarrell Lyn Nelson and Jacqueline Ross Nelson Dunham. Throughout his life, Jeffrey was a beacon of warmth and kindness, embracing every moment with a spirit of generosity and joy. A proud graduate of Glen Oaks High School in 1983, Jeffrey furthered his education at ITI, class of 1988, where he honed his skills and developed a lifelong passion for woodworking and carpentry. Jeffrey's remarkable ability to transform simple pieces of wood into beautiful creations reflected his natural talent and love for turning one man's trash into another's treasure. This gift of craftsmanship was not only a hobby but a testament to his creativity and dedication. Jeffrey was a devoted family man, survived by his beloved wife of 13 happy years, Patricia Nelson, and his loving children: Peyton Reed and husband Bryan Reed, Erica Dubois, Jeffery Lilburn Nelson Jr., and wife Daniela, and Larel Baldwin and fiancé Jordan Neyland. His legacy is further carried on by his 10 precious grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. Family was the cornerstone of Jeffrey's life. He found happiness in the laughter and play of children, often found in the midst of his nieces and nephews, joining in their games of kickball or jumping on the trampoline—a testament to his youthful spirit and love for family. Jeffrey is also survived by his siblings, who each held a special place in his heart: Janet Nelson and fiancé Angelo’s Pastolski, Jarrelyn Nelson Ruiz, James “Jimmy” Nelson, Jarrell Lyn Nelson Sr. and wife Lindsay Jamyne Nelson Edmond, and Stephen Nelson. His family was blessed by his unyielding love and the profound impact he had on their lives. Preceding Jeffrey in death were his parents, Jarrell Nelson and Jacqueline Dunham, his grandparents, Jesse Nelson and Jacqueline Ross, his Uncle Ray Nelson, and his brother-in-law, Jorge Ruiz. Their memories will forever be interwoven with Jeffrey's, as they are reunited in peace. Beyond his family, Jeffrey's passions included tending to his garden, where he found solace among his vegetables, especially his prized tomatoes, which he joyfully shared with family and friends. His love for fishing was evident, as he never missed an opportunity to cast a line when near a body of water, his fishing pole always ready in his truck during road trips. Jeffrey's life was celebrated in a private funeral ceremony, honoring his wishes and allowing his family to remember him in a personal, intimate manner. Though he is no longer with us, Jeffrey's legacy of kindness, love, and skilled craftsmanship will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we mourn the loss of Jeffrey Lilburn Nelson, we also celebrate the remarkable life he led—a life filled with love, laughter, and an enduring legacy that will be cherished forever. May he rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of those who have gone before him.
