May 25, 1954 — March 17, 2026

In loving memory of Mrs. Jessie L. Burton, who departed this world on March 17, 2026, at the age of 71, after a long and courageous battle with her health. Jessie’s journey began on May 25, 1954, in the vibrant town of Jackson, Mississippi, where she was born to the late Calvin C. Stockston and Virgie Lee Ward-Stockston. Her life was a tapestry of warmth, resilience, and unwavering faith, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Jessie’s early years were characterized by an innate curiosity and a zest for life. She graduated from Washington Union High School in 1973, where she was fondly remembered as "feisty and smart," a testament to her vibrant personality and sharp intellect. She carried these traits with her throughout her life, endearing her to all who knew her. Her professional journey led her to Levi Strauss in Sanger, California, where her skilled hands and creative spirit shone as a talented seamstress. Although an injury brought her career to an early close, Jessie embraced her role as a homemaker with grace and dedication, channeling her creativity into her home and family life. Jessie’s heart was deeply rooted in her faith. Her spiritual journey began at Pearly Grove Baptist Church, and in her mid-30s, she found a spiritual home at the Apostolic Holy Ghost Tabernacle, where she thrived and cultivated a life filled with love, forgiveness, and kindness. Her faith was a guiding light, reflecting in her gentle nature and the genuine warmth she offered to everyone she met. Jessie was known for her forgiving heart and her ability to leave people with a smile, embodying a spirit of kindness that was truly rare. Her personal life was rich with love and companionship. Jessie was blessed to have shared her life with two loving husbands, Roy L. Taylor and Samuel "Sam" Burton, and later found solace in the companionship of her cherished friend, Harold McCarn. Though they have all predeceased her, the love they shared remains a testament to the depth of Jessie’s heart. Jessie leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by her seven sisters—Diane Montgomery, Ida Stockston, Connie Key, Sandra Stockston, Rose Stockston, Dorothy Stockston, and Louella McCoy—and her brother, Sydney Stockston. Her love and kindness extended to her godchildren, Tina Ajayi and Bobby Wilson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who all held a special place in her heart. A woman of diverse talents, Jessie found joy in baking, sewing, fishing, bingo, and gardening. Her home was often filled with the aroma of freshly baked goods, and her garden was a testament to her nurturing spirit. She was a woman who embraced life with open arms and a heart full of love. To honor Jessie’s life, a service will be held on April 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Jesse E. Cooley, Jr. Funeral Service, located at 1830 S. Fruit Ave., Fresno, CA 93706. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman who touched so many with her kindness, faith, and resilience. In remembering Jessie L. Burton, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart full of love, and a spirit that will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. May her soul rest in eternal peace, as her legacy of love and kindness continues to shine brightly in our hearts.
