Mrs. Dorthy Tyus

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mrs. Dorthy Tyus on September 14, 2026, at her home. Born on July 11, 1938, in Montgomery, Alabama, Dorthy lived a full life characterized by love, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Dorthy was the cherished daughter of the late Mr. Samuel Nettles Sr. and Mrs. Janie Mae Nettles. She was a beacon of light and a pillar of strength to her family, having shared a lifelong bond with her late husband, Mr. Zack Tyus. Their love story was a testament to enduring companionship and mutual respect. Together, they raised a beautiful family and provided a nurturing environment filled with love and warmth. Preceding Dorthy in death are her dear son, Lonnie Harris Sr., her grandsons, Steven Stewart and Jassey Thomas, her brothers, Sam Nettles Jr. and Mose Nettles of Matthews, Alabama, and her sister, Essie Nelson of Montgomery, Alabama. Their memories and legacies continue to live on in the hearts of those they left behind. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Amanda Jones, and her loving son, Thomas Harris. Her legacy continues through her six adoring grandchildren: Ruben Stewart and Ann, Shavon Harris of Montgomery, Alabama, Amy McClease (wife of Lonnie McClease) of Birmingham, Alabama, Lawanna McClease of Greenville, South Carolina, and Lionel Harris of Jacksonville, Florida. Additionally, she leaves behind twelve great-grandchildren who were the pride and joy of her life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Care, specifically Mrs. Linda and Nurses Becky, Rachel, and Nedra, for their compassionate and attentive care during Dorthy's final days. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort to both Dorthy and her family. A celebration of Dorthy’s life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Snowden Community Center, located at 6145 Norman Bridge Road, Montgomery, AL 36105. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Dorthy are invited to join us in honoring her remarkable life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dorthy's memory to a charity of your choice. Her generous spirit and loving heart will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May Mrs. Dorthy Tyus rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of those she cherished and those who cherished her.
