We announce with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, the passing of Mr. Willie Charles Hawkins Sr., who took his rest peacefully on June 28, 2026, in the tender care of Christus Health Hospital's ICU Department. Born on July 13, 1933, in the small yet vibrant town of Overton, Texas, Willie was a beacon of light and love, known for his quick wit and warm smile that could brighten even the darkest day. The son of the late L.G. Hawkins and Gracie M. Hawkins, Willie was raised with values that he carried with him throughout his 92 remarkable years. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Jason Tyrone Hawkins, his great-granddaughter Madessian Elizabeth Bagley, great-grandsons Princeston Smith and Carter Wilson, his sister Mrs. Carolyn Sue Hawkins, and brothers Clyde Edward Hawkins and Henry Otis Hawkins. Each loss he mourned deeply, with a heart full of love and remembrance. Willie’s earthly journey was enriched by his lifelong marriage to the love of his life, Mrs. Kayvonne Hawkins. Their union, which lasted over 60 years, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised six children, five of whom continue to cherish the legacy of a father who gave them roots and wings. His children, Willie C. Hawkins Sr. (Darlene Hawkins), Jacqueline R. Bagley (Elijah Bagley Jr.), Anthony D. Hawkins (Morris “Pale” Hawkins), Emma L. Choice (Reginold Choice), and Marsha D. King (Reginald King), along with 21 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-great-grandchildren, are the living tapestry of his life’s work and joy. Educated at Arp High School, class of 1950, Willie was a self-taught truck driver by the age of 20. His career spanned from Kilgore Pipe to Joe R. Mays Trucking in Overton, Texas, where he was not only a driver but also a welder and machinist. His pride in his work was surpassed only by the pride he felt as two of his sons followed in his professional footsteps, carrying forward his legacy with the same dedication and passion. Willie was a faithful servant of the Zion Baptist Church of Overton, Texas, from a very young age. His spiritual journey was guided by the compassionate teachings of Rev. S.D. Mitchell, Rev. Jimmie Nelson, Rev. Tyrone Gee, Rev. Nathan Cravens, and Pastor Robert Smith, whom he served with unwavering faithfulness. In his younger days, Willie found joy in fishing and hunting with his boys, creating memories that would be cherished for generations. Known for his generosity and kindness, Willie's gift for making others feel welcome and valued touched countless lives. His humor and warmth were a balm to all who knew him. A celebration of Willie’s life will be held on July 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Zion Baptist Church, located at 1106 S. Commerce Street, Overton, TX 75684. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Christus Health Medical Center for their compassionate care and to his devoted caregiver, Ms. Sandra Cooper, for the love and care she provided. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we carry forward his spirit of love, laughter, and kindness. Rest in peace, dear Willie. Your legacy lives on in each of us.
