Mr James A Byrd

Mr. James A. Byrd, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed this life on September 10, 2026, at his home in the comforting presence of his cherished family. Born on January 3, 1942, in Pompano Beach, Florida, James was a man of enduring love, laughter, and dedication.
James was the treasured son of the late Pirlen Byrd and Mary Kornegay. He was predeceased by his siblings Betty Williams, Bobbi Byrd, Ola Mae Wilson, Evanell Buress, Frank, and Bobby Byrd, as well as his niece Pamela Williams, Evon Byrd, Lancille Waters and nephew Joshua Lee. James shared a special bond with his family, which was the foundation of his life and legacy.
On January 16, 1970, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Irvin, in Jacksonville, Florida. Their union, lasting an extraordinary 56 years, was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Latonya Dallis(Tamara) and Yolanda Byrd (Joseph Glenn). James was a proud grandfather to Antonisha, Anthony, Chanell, and Derrick, and a doting great-grandfather to Nikerriyah, Azarria, Kamiyah, Kemari, Dorian,Kai, Cameron,Kenzie, Ashanti,Grace,and Elisha His sisters Dorothy and Loubride, brother-in-law Melvin (Cynthia), sister-in-law Gail, nieces Jeanette, Velvet, Felicia, Chiquita, nephews Lavander (Shontavious), Dageral Wilkerson, and numerous friends and family are left to cherish his memory.
A graduate of Stanton High School, James spent 37 devoted years working for the City of Jacksonville's Streets and Highways Division before retiring on January 8, 2009. He was a proud member of St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church, where he found spiritual guidance under the leadership of the late Pastor Murray.
James was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved watching football and was known for his amazing culinary skills. His quick wit and warm smile were infectious, and his humorous anecdotes could always lighten the mood. James had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and his kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
A celebration of James' life will take place on September 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Weston Mortuary, located at 3027 Myrtle Avenue N. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring James' spirit of giving and compassion.
The Byrd family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at UF Health for their exceptional care and support during his final days. James will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all whose lives he touched. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
