January 31, 1963 — June 26, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Hubert Lester McClendon, a cherished son, devoted father, loving grandfather, and esteemed community member. Hubert departed this life peacefully on June 26, 2026, at the age of 67. His legacy of love, strength, and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on May 1, 1959, in Monroe, North Carolina, Hubert was the beloved son of the late Rev. Hubert McClendon, Jr., and his devoted mother, Mae George McClendon. From a young age, Hubert was nurtured by the values of faith and family, instilled by his parents. He proudly carried these principles throughout his life, sharing them generously with all who crossed his path. Hubert's educational journey began at Forest Hills High School, where he graduated as part of the Class of 1981. His passion for the arts led him to the University of Maryland, where he earned a degree in Art. Hubert’s artistic talents were more than just a profession; they were an expression of his vibrant spirit and creativity. After completing his education, Hubert returned to his roots in Marshville, North Carolina, where he embarked on a successful career at Yale Norton in Monroe. Not one to shy away from challenges, Hubert later became an independent business owner, providing services to many stores in the thriving Ballantyne area of Charlotte. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his dedication and integrity. Hubert’s professional journey culminated with a fulfilling 20-year tenure at American Airlines in Charlotte, North Carolina. His colleagues remember him as a diligent and compassionate coworker who always had a kind word and smile to share. A man of deep family ties, Hubert leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: sons Chandler McClendon of Waxhaw, North Carolina, and Malcolm Jerome McClendon (Janise) of Columbia, South Carolina; and daughter, Candace McClendon of Monroe, North Carolina. His six grandchildren—Brooklynn, Isaiah, Eastyn, Michael, Tyress, and Caleb Morris—were the apples of his eye, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Hubert is also survived by his devoted mother, Mae McClendon, and his siblings: brothers Gary C. McClendon (Charlene), Michael L. McClendon, and Daryl L. McClendon (Alicia); and sisters Angela L. McClendon and Angela D. Little (Michael). A tapestry of family love surrounds him, including numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, each holding dear the memories they shared with him. A celebration of Hubert's life will be held on June 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Nicey Grove Missionary Baptist Church, located at 318 Camden Road in Wingate, North Carolina. In honor of Hubert's generous spirit, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice. As we bid farewell to Hubert, we hold close the family’s special message: "The future is not ours to know, and it may never be, So let us live and give our best. Never anticipating or doubting The power of our Savior; asking nothing of tomorrow except-Thy will be Done." May Hubert Lester McClendon rest in eternal peace, forever remembered in the hearts of all who loved him.
