Mr. Earl J. Lewis, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 15, 2026. Born on December 10, 1943, in Rowland, NC, Earl was the cherished son of Hubert and Susie Lewis.
Earl grew up in Rowland, where he graduated from Peterson High School in 1963. Shortly after, he served his country with dedication in the United States Army for seven years. Upon completing his service, Earl embarked on a successful career at Kelly Springfield, where he worked diligently for 31 years before retiring.
In 1965, Earl married the love of his life, Leona Ferguson Lewis. Together, they shared a beautiful journey of 58 years, filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful children: Bertram, Byron, and Melissa. Although preceded in death by their sons Bertram and Brain, Earl's spirit and love continue to guide his surviving children, Byron and his wife Selean, and Melissa K. Lewis.
Earl was a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren and took immense joy in their accomplishments and milestones. His legacy extends to the next generation with five great-grandchildren, who brought him endless delight.
Earl was also predeceased by his siblings Mary E. Lewis, Dennis, Thomas, Maggie, Florina, James Thurman Lewis, and John Charles Lewis. Despite these losses, Earl remained a pillar of strength for his family, providing unwavering support and wisdom to those around him.
A man of deep faith and compassion, Earl's warm demeanor and generous nature touched all who were fortunate to know him. His kindness extended beyond his family, as he was an active member of his community, always willing to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement.
A celebration of Earl's life will be held on September 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the S&L Funeral Home, located at 304 N Patterson St. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available on Facebook.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Earl's memory to a charity of your choice, honoring his legacy of generosity and community service.
Earl's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and resilience. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, and his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
