Mozelle Barnes Shelton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mozelle Barnes Shelton, who peacefully departed this world on August 8, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family at her home. Born on December 30, 1940, in Silsbee, Texas, Mozelle lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community. Mozelle was the cherished daughter of the late James Johnson and Gladys Johnson Edwards. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wade Shelton, Jr., and her siblings Mary Woods, Jesse Johnson, James Johnson, Willie D. Johnson, Robbie Johnson, and Bobbie Johnson. Despite the profound loss she experienced, Mozelle remained a beacon of strength and resilience to those around her. She is survived by her devoted children: Cynthia, Dalton, Chris, Mundez, Millette, Jason, and Jessica Courtney. Mozelle's legacy continues through her 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She also leaves behind her siblings, Robert Price, Bennie Russ, and Helen Landry, who will remember her with deep affection. An alumna of Waldo Matthews High School and Lamar University, Mozelle pursued her passion for beauty as a licensed beautician. Her warm smile and the gift of making everyone feel welcome and valued were hallmarks of her character, and she touched countless lives with her kindness and generosity. Mozelle was an active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she found joy and purpose in her faith and fellowship. She was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, enriching her community with her dedication and service. A lover of life’s simple pleasures, Mozelle enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, watching movies, and cooking. Her home was always filled with the aroma of delicious meals and the sounds of laughter, a testament to her love for bringing people together. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Mozelle are invited to celebrate her life and legacy on August 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, located at 480 Bonner St., Silsbee, Texas. The service will be a fitting tribute to a woman whose life was characterized by love, compassion, and unwavering faith. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mozelle's memory to a charity of your choice, as a way to honor her generous spirit and commitment to helping others. Mozelle Barnes Shelton will be dearly missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and guide us.
