Mother Vivian Elaine Alston
January 7, 1955 — April 26, 2026
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Mother Vivian Elaine Alston, who peacefully departed this world on April 26, 2026. Born on January 7, 1955, in the serene town of Bracey, Virginia, Mecklenburg County, Vivian was a guiding light, a loving mother, and a cherished friend. Her journey on this earth was marked by profound kindness and a spirit that embraced all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Vivian was the beloved daughter of Alex William Feggins and Elnora Grace Mayo, who instilled in her the values of compassion and resilience. She was predeceased by her dear parents, her brother Alex Jr., and her sisters Hazel Feggins Henley, Sarah Feggins Morton, and Alice Feggins Sheppard, whom she now joins in eternal peace.
Vivian is survived by her devoted children, John Thomas Feggins (JT) and his wife Dorothy Boyd Feggins, Crystal Alston Nugent and her husband Nugent, and Anthony Dwayne Alston. Her enduring legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren and her five great-grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye. Her siblings, Grace Feggins Powell, Alma Feggins Jackson, and Eunice Feggins Alexander, along with her sister friends Theresa Ann Dortch and Diane Dortch, will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Vivian was joined in holy matrimony to James Richard Alston, with whom she raised three wonderful children. Her journey through life was one of service and dedication. Educated at Park View High School, her career took her from Richmond, Virginia, where she worked at VCU Hospital, to Baltimore, Maryland, where she thrived in the hospitality field. Her unwavering love for family brought her back to South Hill, Virginia, where she tenderly cared for her ailing mother.
A faithful servant, Vivian was baptized and attended Free Union Church, where her spirit of service and devotion was evident to all. Her love for life was infectious, and she was truly the life of the party. Vivian had a magical gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. She danced her way into the hearts of many, leaving a legacy of love and laughter.
Vivian was more than just a mother, sister, and friend; she was a beacon of warmth and generosity. Her free and inviting spirit ensured that she never met a stranger she didn't love. Her kindness knew no bounds, touching countless lives throughout her journey.
A celebration of Vivian's life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Free Union. We gather to honor her memory, to celebrate her spirit, and to continue sharing the love she so generously gave to us all.
As we bid farewell, we do so with the knowledge that Vivian's legacy will live on in the hearts of all she touched. Her laughter, her love, and her light will continue to guide us, just as she did in life. Rest in peace, dear Vivian, knowing you are cherished and remembered always.
