With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved matriarch, known affectionately as "Mother." Born on July 11, 1934, in the small town of Charles, Georgia, she left this world on June 1, 2026, surrounded by love, after a valiant battle with hypoxia disease. She was 91 years old. Mother was the cherished daughter of Rosetta Scott and Hozy Harvey. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Minnie Barnes, with whom she shared countless memories of their youthful days in Georgia. Educated at Lumpkin High School, Mother was a woman of resilience and strength. She was a dedicated cook and chef, sharing her culinary talents with all who knew her. Her dishes were more than just meals; they were expressions of love and care, nourishing both body and soul. Her kitchen was a haven of warmth and laughter, where her family often gathered to create memories and share stories. A devoted Jehovah's Witness for over 40 years, Mother found solace and strength in her faith, which she shared generously with her family and community. Her unwavering commitment to her beliefs was a guiding light in her life, and she was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Mother had a direct personality, characterized by an honesty that was always tempered with kindness and understanding. She had a heart of gold that touched the lives of everyone she met. Her warmth, wisdom, and gentle guidance were a source of comfort and inspiration to her family and friends. She was a woman of simple pleasures, who loved singing and dancing. Her laughter was infectious, and her joy was contagious. These passions brought light to even the toughest of times, reminding us all of the beauty in life’s simplest moments. Mother was a loving and devoted mother to her children: Charle Hamby and his wife Ann, Rubye King and her husband Jack, Rose Harvey, and Myra Boze. Her legacy includes nine cherished grandchildren, who will forever carry forward her love and values. Though she was widowed, Mother's marriage was a testament to enduring love, faith, and partnership. She now joins her beloved in eternal peace, leaving behind a family that will forever hold her in their hearts. A service to honor Mother’s remarkable life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 11:30 AM at the Kingdom Hall, located at 829 Faile Street, Bronx, New York. The family invites all who knew her to come together in celebration of a life well-lived, and to share in the comfort of each other's company. In her own words, Mother would want us to remember: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7). Her life was a testament to these words—an inspiring journey of love, faith, and unwavering strength. Mother, you have left an indelible mark on our hearts. You will be profoundly missed, but your spirit lives on in each of us. Rest in peace, dear Mother. Your legacy of love endures.
