Mother Betty Jane Joplin

October 7, 1934 — May 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mother Betty Jane Joplin on May 28, 2026, at the Cascade Senior Care Center. Betty was a cherished matriarch whose loving spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Born on October 7, 1934, in Jackson, Michigan, Betty was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her 91 years. Betty was the beloved daughter of Virginia and Edward Porter, who instilled in her the values of compassion and resilience. She graduated from Jackson High School, where she formed friendships that she cherished throughout her life. Her education was not just in academics but also in the art of kindness and community, lessons she carried with her always. In her early years, Betty met and married the love of her life, Amos Joplin. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter, creating a home that was always open to family and friends. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and they shared many joyous years until Amos's passing. Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband, Amos, her loving parents, Virginia and Edward Porter, her dear siblings, Henry and Joan Porter, and many beloved family members, including her nephews Henry Roger Porter and Johnnie Lynn Jones, and her uncle and aunt Henry and Lucille Patterson. She is now reunited with them in peace. Betty's legacy lives on through her surviving family, who will forever cherish their memories with her. She leaves behind her cousin Virginia McCann, niece Shelia Porter, and nephew Kevin Porter. Her presence will be deeply missed by her great-nephew Jua'Qan (Kristen) Williams and great-niece Meija Jones, along with her great-great-nieces A'Lahni Jones and Taelynn Williams. Betty shared a special bond with her great-great-niece, A'Nyiah Jones, whom she lovingly called her "special girl." Betty's family also includes cousins Rosalie Glaspie, Sharon Moore, Sondra Huddleston, Rebecca Moore, James W. Clements, Amelia Clements, India Washington, Darren Moore, and Deshara Moore. Each of them holds cherished memories of Betty's warmth and humor. Throughout her life, Betty was a woman of faith and strength, providing guidance and love to all around her. Her friendships were numerous, and she was known for her generous heart and gentle wisdom. She found joy in the simple things—gardening, reading, and spending time with her family. As we say goodbye to Betty, we remember her with fondness and gratitude for the legacy of love she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace, her spirit forever in our hearts. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to reminisce and honor her remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice in her memory, continuing her tradition of giving and kindness. Mother Betty Jane Joplin will be dearly missed but never forgotten, her life a beautiful testament to love and compassion.
