Mother and Grandmother
January 29, 1927 — May 28, 2026
In loving memory of our beloved Mother and Grandmother, who passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on May 28, 2026. Born on January 29, 1927, in the small and welcoming town of Ailey, Georgia, she was a beacon of love and faith to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mother and Grandmother was predeceased by her devoted husband, Robert P. Johnson, her cherished son, Alfred Jernigan, and her beloved grandsons, Kenneth Evans and Randy Jernigan. Her loss is deeply felt by her surviving family, including her daughters, Bernice Evans and Celestine Jernigan, and her seven grandchildren: Gregory Evans (Dedra), Regina Lee (Charles), John Anthony, Cornelia Anthony, and Justine Anthony. Her legacy continues through her numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry her spirit forward.
Her life was a testament to unwavering faith and community service. As a dedicated and faithful member of Turner Monumental AME Church for over 50 years, she was known for her steadfast commitment to her faith and her community. She also shared her spiritual journey with the congregation at Macedonia AME Church, where her presence was equally cherished.
Mozelle had a passion for the past and a love for all things antique. Saturdays were often spent amidst the hustle and bustle of flea markets, where her booth was a treasure trove of beautiful jewelry, clothes, and furniture. Her knack for finding beauty in the old and worn was a reflection of her ability to see the best in everyone she met.
Known for her kindness and generosity, Mother and Grandmother was a mother figure to many beyond her own family. Her door was always open, and she never missed an opportunity to share a bible verse or a word of encouragement. Her faith in God was a cornerstone of her life, and she often reminded those around her that she was praying for them, offering comfort and strength in the most difficult times.
A celebration of her life will be held on June 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Turner Monumental AME Church, located at 66 Howard St NE, Atlanta, GA 30317. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring her remarkable life and the indelible impact she made on all who knew her.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Nichelle, Alexis, Sharon Wright, and Valerie Walker, for their loving care and support during her final days.
In her memory, let us continue to live with the kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith that she so beautifully exemplified. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will forever guide and inspire those she loved.
