Alyce Marie Tuominen-Rodda

In loving memory of Alyce Tuominen, a cherished soul who departed this world on June 6, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on January 14, 1938, in the quaint town of Virginia, Minnesota, Alyce lived a life marked by devotion to family, career, and community. She passed peacefully in her sleep after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by the love of those who knew her best. Alyce was the beloved daughter of Veiko and Gayle Tuominen and the treasured sister of Sally, who preceded her in death. She was also reunited in the afterlife with her dear daughters, Lisa Marie and Robin Renee, who have awaited her in eternal peace. Alyce's enduring legacy is carried forward by her sister Peggy Miners and brother Jerry Tuominen, devoted son, David, and her caring daughter-in-law, Carol. Her granddaughters, Sara Mielke, Jessica Ploehn, Janelle Hanson, Emma Rodda, and grandson, Ryan Johnson, along with seven great-granddaughters and one great-grandson, will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Alyce's academic pursuits were a testament to her unwavering determination and love for knowledge. A proud graduate of Virginia High School, she later earned her Associate's Degree from Hennepin Community College. Her thirst for learning led her to the University of Minnesota, where she studied Business Administration and Accounting. Alyce's career flourished as she served as the Business Operations Director for Genesis for Women in Minneapolis. Her journey continued in San Diego during the mid-eighties, where she became the Finance and Operations Director for the San Diego County Law Library, retiring in 2002 after a storied career. A passionate advocate for women's rights, Alyce was an active member and organizer of the Minnesota Women's Political Caucus. Her dedication to the feminist movement was unwavering, and her efforts left an indelible mark on the community she cared for so deeply. Alyce's adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively throughout Europe, where she connected with extended family in Helsinki, Finland. Her home in Ocean Beach was a sanctuary for foreign students from the San Diego Language Institute, whom she hosted with warmth and generosity for two decades. Alyce cherished learning about the customs and cultures of her guests and treasured the visits she made to their home countries. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Good Samaritan Ambassador of New Hope, The Lodge, and St. Croix Hospice for the unwavering kindness and support provided to Alyce during her time in their care. In keeping with Alyce's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her memory. Her family and friends will continue to celebrate her life, cherishing the moments they shared with a remarkable woman who touched so many lives. Alyce's legacy of love, strength, and kindness will forever be etched in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she so generously gave throughout her life.
