It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Morrison Tancil, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world peacefully on March 28, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on August 31, 1947, in Washington, DC, Morrison was the cherished son of the late Jefferson Morrison Tancil, Jr. and Martha Tancil.
Morrison's life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and love, values deeply instilled by his parents. He was a proud graduate of Suitland High School in Suitland, MD, and furthered his education at the University of Maryland College Park and Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff, NE. His thirst for knowledge was evident in his career and personal life.
He devoted over 20 years of his professional life to Amtrak, a tenure marked by his steadfast commitment and integrity. Even after retirement, his work ethic was unwavering as he ventured into the role of a Federal Contractor, where he excelled as a budget and accounting professional. In his later years, Morrison's entrepreneurial spirit led him to explore real estate investments, showcasing his ability to adapt and grow.
Morrison's life was rich with interests and passions, most notably his love for cooking and baking. His famous brownies were a testament to his culinary skills, often shared with family and friends during gatherings. He cherished times spent bowling, cheering for his beloved Washington Redskins, and most of all, supporting his family's academic and athletic endeavors. His life was a living example of devotion, as he always strived to enhance the lives of those around him, whether through sharing knowledge, lending a helping hand, or simply being present.
Morrison's kindheartedness and generosity were felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He made everyone feel like family, a rare gift that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving family: his devoted wife, Karen Tancil; his son, Justin Tancil; his daughter, Nicole Halton; and his cherished grandson, Arron Tancil. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Nadji Richmond, his niece, Kara Richmond, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A service to celebrate Morrison's extraordinary life will be held on April 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hines Rinaldi Funeral Home, located at 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather and honor the life of a man who gave so much to those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Morrison’s memory to a charity of your choice, as a way to continue his legacy of generosity and kindness.
Morrison Tancil will be remembered for his unwavering love, his wisdom, and his gentle spirit. He enriched the lives of all who knew him, leaving behind a world that is better for having had him in it.
