It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Monica Pettway, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on June 26, 2026, at the age of 56. Monica left us in the warmth of the early summer, enveloped in the love and care of her family. Her journey began on January 25, 1970, in Detroit, Michigan, where she was born to Bozy and Shirley Pettway, who predeceased her and now welcome her with open arms into eternity.
Monica was a woman of immense strength and unwavering love, whose life was defined by her deep commitment to her family and her community. She was the cherished mother of Danyale Barnett and Darius Pettway, who were the center of her world. Her nurturing spirit lives on through her five adored grandchildren: Danya Thompson, Trevon, Robert (Junior) Thompson, Dean Pettway, and Donvon Pettway, each of whom carries a piece of her heart and legacy.
She grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings, Alethia Pettway, Kimberly Pettway, and Stephanie Pettway. Together, they created a tapestry of memories filled with laughter, shared secrets, and unbreakable bonds. Monica’s siblings remember her as a pillar of support, always ready with a kind word or a comforting embrace.
Monica’s life was a testament to resilience and compassion. She possessed a gentle soul and a generous spirit, always ready to offer a helping hand to those in need. Her kindness and warmth extended beyond her family, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Whether through volunteer work or quiet acts of kindness, Monica made a difference in her community, leaving a legacy of love that will continue to inspire.
In her professional life, Monica was committed and hardworking, yet she always prioritized her family, ensuring that love and laughter filled their home. Her culinary skills were legendary among family and friends, and her Sunday meals were a cherished tradition that brought everyone together.
As we celebrate Monica’s life, we remember her as a beacon of love and light. Her laughter, her stories, and her gentle presence will be dearly missed but never forgotten. We take solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she loved.
In honor of Monica’s generous heart, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting her belief in the power of giving and helping others.
A memorial service to celebrate Monica's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, shed tears, and find comfort in the shared memories of a life beautifully lived.
Monica Pettway’s legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. As we bid her farewell, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared and the love she gave selflessly and without reservation. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
