March 26, 1957 — May 28, 2026

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Monica Farrell, a beloved wife, sister, and cherished friend. Monica departed this world on May 28, 2026, after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer. She found her peace at North Shore Hospice, surrounded by an abundance of love and care, just as she lived her life. Born on March 26, 1957, in the picturesque town of North Vancouver, Monica was a beacon of warmth and kindness from the very beginning. She spent her childhood amidst the natural beauty of her birthplace, which undoubtedly sowed the seeds of her lifelong passion for gardening. Her early years were filled with laughter and closeness shared with her siblings, Angela, Sylvia, and Tom, bonds that remained strong throughout her life. Monica’s journey was profoundly marked by the love story she shared with her husband, James Farrell. High school sweethearts, Monica and Jim’s love blossomed into a deeply committed partnership when they married in 1974. Together, they built a life rich with love and mutual respect, which was evident to all who knew them. Throughout her successful management career, Monica was known not just for her professional acumen, but for her innate ability to touch the lives of those around her with her loving kindness. Her colleagues, much like her family and friends, were often recipients of her thoughtful gestures — from heartfelt birthday cards to homemade gifts like crocheted afghans and delicious baked goods. Monica had a unique talent for making everyone feel valued and heard, always offering words of encouragement and understanding. In retirement, Monica's heart found its sanctuary in her garden, a vibrant tapestry of flowers, trees, and scarlet runners, cultivated with love and care. Her garden was not just a place of beauty but a testament to her nurturing spirit, a space that delighted the senses and served as a haven for hummingbirds and neighbors alike. Monica leaves behind a family who adored her: her devoted husband Jim; her siblings Angela, Sylvia, and Tom; and her extended family members, Jason, Joe, Joanne and Rob, Janice and Murray, Chris and Tianna, Matthew, and Daniel. The love Monica shared with them was boundless, and her legacy will continue to flourish in the hearts of all who knew her. The Farrell family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate doctors and nurses at Lions Gate Hospital and North Shore Hospice. Their professional care, coupled with sensitivity and kindness, provided Monica with comfort during her final days. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks for the unwavering support during this difficult time. Monica Farrell’s life was a beautiful symphony of love, kindness, and grace. Her memory will forever be cherished and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her. A private memorial service will be held in her honor, where her life will be remembered with the love and joy that she so generously gave to others. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the North Shore Hospice in memory of Monica, so that others may receive the same compassionate care that she did in her final days.
