Barbara Marie Bratton
April 26, 1954 — April 22, 2026
It is with heavy hearts, yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Barbara Marie Bratton, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Barbara left this world peacefully on April 22, 2026, just shy of her 72nd birthday, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.
Barbara was born on April 26, 1954, in Salem, Ohio, to Don and Jean Schneider. She grew up in a loving household alongside her siblings VK Ziegler, Lori Schneider, and Fred Schneider, all of whom held a special place in her heart throughout her life.
In 1972, Barbara graduated from West Branch High School, setting the stage for a life filled with diverse experiences and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Shortly thereafter, on October 7, 1972, she married the love of her life, Larry Bratton. Together, they embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship, celebrating countless memories and adventures until Larry's passing.
Barbara was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where her faith shone brightly through her service as treasurer, secretary, and council member. Her vibrant spirit and community-minded heart led her to initiate outdoor movie nights, becoming a cherished tradition on warm summer evenings.
Her professional life was marked by her contributions to several local businesses, including Orts Furniture, The Damascus Sale Barn, Salem Computer Store, and Tolsons Comfort Systems. Yet, it was her passion for creating and nurturing that truly defined her. Barbara was a talented seamstress known for her beautiful quilts, including a cherished church anniversary quilt, as well as countless dresses and masks during the Covid pandemic.
Baking was another of Barbara’s many gifts. Her kitchen was a haven of warmth and delicious aromas, where her famous peanut butter pies and intricately decorated wedding and birthday cakes were lovingly crafted. Her cookies, a staple at family gatherings, were as sweet as her generous spirit.
Barbara's life was enriched by her love for travel, often planning vacations that brought her family together. She delighted in cruising with her husband Larry and cherished trips with her sister VK and brother-in-law Zane Ziegler. Her love for family was further expressed in countless card games, particularly the beloved Shanghai, shared with family members and her long-standing card club.
She leaves behind her daughter, Melinda Marie Westbrook, and grandson, Brandon Grimminger, who gave her the title Mom and Nana. Her siblings, VK Ziegler (Zane), Lori Schneider (Chris), and Fred Schneider (Margaret), along with her nephews Scott Ziegler (Darcy) and Ryan Ziegler (Ruth), will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Predeceased by her husband, Larry Bratton, and her son-in-law, Danny Westbrook, Barbara now joins them in eternal peace.
Barbara's legacy is one of love, family, and community. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those she loved will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held in June through invitation only.
Barbara Marie Bratton's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and generosity. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
