Barbara D. Deckard

October 4, 1954 — April 26, 2026

It is with profound sadness, yet a deep sense of gratitude for her life, that we announce the passing of Barbara D. Deckard on April 26, 2026. Born on October 4, 1954, in Houston, Texas, Barbara departed this world peacefully at her home, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and warmth that will forever be cherished by all who knew her. Barbara was the cherished daughter of Dorsie Lee Bowens (Deckard) and Leroy Deckard, who preceded her in death, along with her beloved brother Kenneth Roy Deckard and son Rodrick Leon Deckard. Despite the sorrows she faced, Barbara's spirit remained unyieldingly joyful and open-hearted, a beacon of light to all who crossed her path. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome, turning strangers into friends with her genuine smile and kind words. Her life was a testament to the power of family, love, and kindness. Barbara is survived by her devoted children, Michael Deckard, Rodney Deckard, and Elgelina Horn (Chreskin Horn), who carry forward her teachings of compassion and resilience. Her daughter Danielle Hall, along with her grandchildren Charisma Douglas (Trumoski Douglas), Joshua Blanton, Justin Blanton, UnDez Carpenter, Amir Fields, and Stephen Fields, were the greatest joys of her life. Barbara's influence will undoubtedly live on through the many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were blessed to call her "Grandma." Barbara's warmth and generosity were unmatched. Her home was always open, her laughter infectious, and her heart as expansive as the Texas skies under which she was born. She leaves behind a community forever touched by her presence, a family woven together by her boundless love, and a legacy of kindness that will echo through generations. As we remember Barbara, let us celebrate the life of a woman who never met a stranger, whose love knew no bounds, and whose life was a tapestry of connection and joy. Her memory will forever be a guiding light for those she leaves behind, a reminder of the beauty of a life lived with an open heart. Barbara's family invites all who knew her to join in a celebration of her life, details of which will be shared in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity close to Barbara’s heart, ensuring her spirit of generosity continues to make a difference. Barbara D. Deckard's life was a gift to all who knew her, and though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love will endure.
