It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mitzi H. Jackson on August 29, 2026. Born on October 24, 1953, in Defuniak Springs, Florida, Mitzi was a beloved son of the late Laverne Jackson and Hosea Jackson. He was surrounded by the warmth of his friends as he concluded his courageous battle with illness. Mitzi’s life was a testament to commitment, resilience, and love. He graduated from Walton Senior High School and pursued higher education at Auburn University, where he excelled academically and athletically. A proud four-year scholarship letterman, he earned his bachelor's degree and continued on to a master's program at Auburn. His passion for sports led him to a fulfilling career as a coach at Jordan High in Columbus Ga. , Lochapoka High School in Loachapka, Alabama, and Ensley High School, as well as Hosey-Jackson in Birmingham, Alabama. Under his guidance, several teams triumphed in state championships, a reflection of his dedication and skill. A man of faith, Mitzi was baptized at the Red Bay Church of Christ, where he was a devoted member for over 60 years before joining the Hillview Church in Birmingham, Alabama. His spiritual community was an integral part of his life, offering support and solace throughout his journey. Mitzi was known for his humor and frugality, often described as "TIGHT… Very TIGHT… SQUEAKS WHEN HE WALK. LOL." He had a love for working with his hands and cherished spending time with his family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand. He leaves behind a loving family, including his two sisters Wenonah Jackson and Marcia Campbell. Three brothers, Karlos Jackson, Demetrius Jackson, and Myrick Anderson, along with an aunt, Dreena Reed (Elliot), and the extended Reed family. Though he had no grandchildren, Mitzi was deeply cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren who will forever hold him in their hearts. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Laverne Jackson. Mitzi’s dear friend Natasha Clark stood as a pillar of support, especially in his final months. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Natasha and to all who reached out, offering love and care during his illness. A celebration of Mitzi’s life will be held, with the time to be announced, at locations in Birmingham, Alabama; Auburn, Alabama; and Red Bay, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Mitzi’s generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others. Mitzi H. Jackson’s legacy of love, faith, and dedication to family and community will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
