It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Mirtha Discua de Quiñónez, who departed this world on July 5, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on June 17, 1956, in San Marcos, Santa Barbara, Honduras, Mirtha was the cherished daughter of Graciela and Saturnino. Her life was a testament to strength, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Mirtha leaves behind her beloved husband, Alirio Quiñónez, with whom she shared a beautiful life journey. She was a devoted mother to her children, Zully Ortega and her husband Luis Ortega, and Marvin Navarro and his wife Yamileth Arenas. Her legacy continues through her treasured grandchildren, Aaliyah Navarro, Isaac Ortega de Quiñónez, Marvin Adrian Navarro, and Luis Elijah Ortega de Quiñónez, who will forever carry her love and spirit. She was a beloved sister to her siblings Mayra, Glenda, Sandra, Hernan, Milton, Borgas Family, Doris, Ana, and Manrique, and a caring niece to her aunts Mercedes, Elba, and Gloria. Mirtha’s life was also graced by the enduring friendships she shared with her best friends, Gloria Aguilar, Mercedes Perez, and Alba Lainez. Despite completing her formal education only up to the 6th grade in Honduras, Mirtha’s determination and entrepreneurial spirit led her to open her own business, Zulimar, in 2003. Through hard work and perseverance, she built a thriving enterprise that not only supported her family but also served her community. Her love for baking and cooking was well-known, and she delighted in sharing this passion with others. Mirtha also enjoyed creating and selling jewelry, spreading beauty and joy in her area. Mirtha was renowned for her warmth, generosity, and acceptance of others. Her unwavering support and kindness touched the lives of many, and she will be remembered as a cornerstone of her community. Her story is one of effort and dedication, a legacy of honest work that will inspire generations to come. A service to celebrate Mirtha's life will be held on July 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, located at 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the memory of a remarkable woman who was, and always will be, forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mirtha’s memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of giving. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and gratitude of those who knew her.
