It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Miriam Blakes, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, who departed this life on September 13, 2026, just a few days shy of her 67th birthday. Miriam was born on September 18, 1959, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Cleveland Blakes Sr. and Cornelia Douglas Blakes, who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her cherished siblings, Marques Bernell, Calvin Blakes, and Terry-Ann Blakes Miller. Miriam is survived by her devoted brothers, Cleveland Blakes of Woodville, Mississippi, and Morris (Christy) Blakes of Pearland, Texas; her loving sisters, Elaine Magee of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Nicola Jones of Houston, Texas; and her dear aunt and uncle, Janet and Ledell Blakes of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her legacy of love continues through numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a host of friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity. Educated through the Orleans Parish and East Baton Rouge Parish school systems, Miriam was a proud graduate of Istrouma High School. She furthered her education at Southern University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Miriam began her distinguished career as a Staff Accountant with the State of Louisiana Office of Management and Finance. Her professional journey was marked by significant milestones, including becoming the first Black Director of LSU Physician Health Care Network in 1990. Later, she advanced to the role of Senior Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management at Tenet Health Care Services, overseeing operations across Louisiana, Texas, and Florida. Miriam's love for travel took her to many destinations outside the United States, with Jamaica holding a special place in her heart. Yet, no matter where her travels led her, she carried the spirit and culture of New Orleans with her, embodying the city's joy and vibrancy. Miriam will be remembered for her grace, compassion, and authenticity. She had an extraordinary ability to make people feel seen, heard, and valued. Her unwavering love for family and friends was the cornerstone of her life, and she leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. A service to celebrate Miriam's life will be held on September 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Winnfield Funeral Home, located at 7221 Plank Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
