It is with profound sadness and tender hearts that we announce the passing of Millard Garrett, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on May 6, 2026, at the age of 71. Millard was at home, surrounded by love, just as he had always surrounded his cherished family and friends throughout his life.
Born on September 13, 1954, in the vibrant city of Milwaukee, Millard was the devoted son of the late Ruby and Roosevelt Garrett. He was predeceased by his parents and his dear brother, Curtis. Millard's legacy of love and laughter lives on through his surviving siblings, Trenee, Hillard, Kemple, Daryl, Ulysses, and Elise, who were each touched by his boundless warmth and generosity.
Millard's greatest pride and joy were his children: Tynell (Lisa) Earl, Maticka (Juvan) Maxwell-Burton, Mioshy (Angelo) Smith, Ashley, Shannon, Tiant, Jermil, Brandon, and Marika. He shared a deep, unwavering love with his long-term partner, Shirley Maxwell, with whom he shared two wonderful children, Jermil and Maticka. His legacy extends to his 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who will forever carry forward his spirit of joy and resilience.
A proud graduate of North Division High School, Millard furthered his education at Cosmetology School, where he honed his skills and passion for hairstyling. Millard dedicated many years to serving the public schools before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and care for the community’s youth.
Outside of his professional commitments, Millard thrived in the company of his family, where his love of singing, dancing, and playing dominoes brought laughter and unity to countless gatherings. Known for his infectious smile and an unparalleled ability to Bop, Millard was the heartbeat of every celebration, a beacon of joy who cherished every moment spent with those he loved.
A private funeral service will be held on May 22, 2026, at 12:00 PM at First Bible Baptist Church, where family and close friends will come together to celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man. Though the ceremony is private, the family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for Millard and supported the family during this time. Your prayers and kindness are deeply appreciated as we honor Millard's extraordinary life.
In this time of sorrow, we find comfort in the memories we shared with Millard Garrett—a man whose love knew no bounds, and whose spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. Rest peacefully, dear Millard; your song continues through all of us.
