Mildred Lawson

November 9, 1951 — March 17, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch Mildred Lawson, who departed from this world on March 17, 2026, at the age of 74. Mildred passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, in the city of Chicago, Illinois. Born on November 9, 1951, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mildred was the cherished daughter of Albert and Thema McPhearson. She grew up in a vibrant household filled with the love and laughter of her siblings Freddie Mae Lawson, Pauline Nelson, Erma Jean Brown, Geneva Caradine, Robert Dolphins, Albert McPhearson Jr., and Willie H. McPhearson. Though many have preceded her in death, including her dear son Toshawn K. Lawson, bonus son Chico Kendricks, and brother-in-law Jeffery Brown, their spirits surely welcomed her with open arms. Mildred attended Little Rock Central High School, where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to learning and growth. Her quest for knowledge led her to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she expanded her horizons and formed lifelong friendships. In her personal life, Mildred was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Robert Lawson. Together, they built a family and a legacy of love, raising their children Shekena S. Kendricks, Spugon L. Kendricks, Robert Lawson Jr., and Quanetra Lawson. As a grandmother, she delighted in the lives of her eight grandchildren, Quantera Lawson, Labrea Madlock, Brandon Lawson, Robert Lawson, Diontae Lawson, and bonus grandkids Brandi and Nijah Madlock, always providing them with wisdom, warmth, and endless encouragement. Her family grew even larger with the arrival of 20 great-grandchildren, who were the light of her later years. Mildred’s life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and grace. She was a pillar of strength to her family and a nurturing presence to her nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her door was always open, offering a haven of warmth and understanding. A celebration of Mildred's life will be held on April 7, 2026, at 2:30 PM at the South Chicago Chapel, located at 2939 East 95th Street. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Mildred are welcome to join in commemorating a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire generations. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mildred's memory to a charity of your choice, continuing her tradition of giving and helping those in need. Mildred Lawson will forever be remembered for her unyielding love and her ability to bring joy to those around her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace and eternal love.
