Mike Hampton
April 15, 1940 — October 23, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for his life that we announce the peaceful passing of Mike Hampton, who left us on October 23, 2025, at his home in Chicago, Illinois. Born on April 15, 1940, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Mike was a beacon of joy and strength to all who knew him.
Mike was the cherished son of Mary Hampton and Blue Hall. He was predeceased by his father, Blue Hampton, and his beloved brother, Lee. He is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa Barber, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship since their marriage in 1975. Theresa, along with her six children, Keeny James, Keanna James, Angel Barber, Sharon Barber, Tony Scott, and Stephane Barber, will forever treasure the years they spent together.
A proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren, Tray’vieon Flukes, Henrietta Smith, Aisia Foster, Nakwon Foster, Nature Foster, Artaja Godard, and Artavia Godard, Mike was an adoring great-grandfather to two more. His family was the pride and joy of his life. He found immense pleasure in building furniture for his grandchildren, each piece crafted with love and care. His days were filled with simple joys—walking, savoring ice cream, and making his famous pumpkin pie.
Mike's presence was a constant source of warmth and light. Known for his ever-present smile that could light up any room, he carried a joyful spirit that was infectious to all. His love for dancing brought joy not only to himself but to those blessed to be in his company.
A dedicated member of the First Baptist Church, Mike was an active participant in church activities for over a decade. His faith and service were integral parts of his life, providing him with strength and purpose.
The Hampton family extends their heartfelt thanks to Memorial Hospitality for the compassionate care provided to Mike. Their kindness and support during his final days will remain in the family’s hearts forever.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Mike's life and legacy, respecting his wish for a more intimate farewell. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Mike's memory.
Mike Hampton’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will be cherished by his family and friends, and his gentle spirit will remain with us always.
