Mikal Weldesrael
March 22, 2008 — May 8, 2026
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mikal Weldesrael, who left this world peacefully on May 8, 2026, at the tender age of 18. Born on March 22, 2008, in the close-knit community of Owatonna, Mikal graced the world with her radiant spirit and compassionate heart.
As a student, Mikal was on the cusp of an exciting new chapter, being just a few weeks away from graduating high school. Her academic journey was marked with distinction. A member of the National Honor Society, Mikal exemplified excellence and dedication in every endeavor she undertook. She was not only a scholar but also a leader, serving as a captain of the Owatonna Speech team and an active member of the Student Council. Her peers and teachers admired her for her responsible nature and unwavering kindness.
Mikal's commitment to her community was evident through her involvement with Students Help Others Choose (S.H.O.C.) and her compassionate volunteer work at the Owatonna Adult Education Center, where she dedicated four hours each week to tutoring GED students. Her passion for education and volunteerism was an inspiration to all who knew her, and she was recognized as a Rotary Student of the Month in May 2026, a testament to her dedication and selflessness.
In addition to her academic and volunteer pursuits, Mikal found fulfillment in her role as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Timberdale Trace nursing home. Her gentle nature and empathetic demeanor brought comfort to the residents she cared for, and she formed meaningful connections that left a lasting impact.
Mikal’s life, though brief, was a testament to the profound difference one person can make in the lives of others. Her kindness, responsibility, and unwavering commitment to helping those around her will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire her family, friends, and community.
While our hearts ache at the loss of such a beautiful soul, we take comfort in knowing that Mikal’s light will forever shine in the memories of those she touched. As we celebrate her life, we remember Mikal not just for her accomplishments, but for the warmth and compassion she shared in abundance.
A memorial service will be held to honor Mikal’s life and legacy, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Owatonna Adult Education Center, in support of education programs that were so dear to Mikal’s heart.
Mikal is survived by her loving family and countless friends who will cherish her memory always. The world is a better place for having had Mikal in it, and she will be profoundly missed.
