Michelle Eon (Kinds) Shackleford

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michelle Kinds Shackleford, who transitioned to eternal life on July 24, 2026, at Ohio State University Hospital after a brief illness. Born on April 24, 1965, Michelle graced this world with a spirit that touched the lives of all who had the privilege to know her. Michelle was a beloved daughter to Evangelist Joyce B. Hogan and the late John L. Kinds Sr. She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents Hilbert Myers Sr. and Helen (Williams) Myers, and her uncles Richard Herndon and Gary Hill. She is survived by her devoted husband of 19 years, Darrell L. Shackleford, with whom she shared a beautiful journey since their marriage on October 26, 2006. Together, they became active members of the New Covenant Believers Church, serving faithfully in the Homeless Ministry. A dedicated mother to Carleena M. Kinds and a cherished "Honey" to her grandchildren Malachi Woodruff and Makayla Kinds, Michelle's family was the heart of her world. She also leaves behind her mother, her brothers Jeffery L. (Anitra Adam) Kinds and John L. Kinds Jr., her aunts Pastor Shirley (James) Adams and Sister Judy Hill, her uncle Hilbert (Tera Frazee) Myers Jr., and a host of extended family members, including cousins Ebony Robinson and Cassandra Watkins. Michelle's academic journey began in the Mount Vernon Ohio City School system, and she later pursued higher education at Central State University, Mansfield Business College, and Ashland University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business. Her career spanned an impressive 38 years at the American Electric Power Company (AEP), where she rose through the ranks to become the Manager of Workplace Services, leaving a legacy of leadership and dedication. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life. Michelle was once the President of the Women's International Network of Utility Professionals, a Board Member for the local American Association of Blacks in Energy, and an active supporter of the United Way, the Women's Fund of Central Ohio, and New Directions Clothing Closet. Her contributions to her community were recognized in the sixth edition of "Who's Who in Black Columbus" in 2008. Michelle's life was rich with hobbies and interests, including water skiing, motorcycling, and pencil art, some of which was featured in the Governor's Art Show during her high school years. She loved watching old movies, cheering for the Bengals and the Ohio State Buckeyes, and taking cruises that fed her adventurous spirit. Michelle was known for her servant heart, beautiful smile, and unwavering faith. Her wisdom and anonymous acts of kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Even in the face of illness, Michelle's faith never wavered, and she continued to serve others with grace and strength. A celebration of Michelle's life will take place on August 6, 2026, with the viewing at 10:00 a.m. and the celebration at 11:00 a.m., at New Covenant Believers Church, located at 3400 Kohr Blvd, Columbus, Ohio 43234. As the family reflects on her legacy, they find comfort in the belief that Michelle has answered the Master's call to rest until the return of Jesus. Michelle's life was a testament to love, faith, and service. She will be deeply missed but forever celebrated by all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to inspire, reminding us of the power of a life lived with purpose and compassion.
